Energy saving tyres - a complete con?

Its a calculator that will calculate the total savings you will make out of the whole life of an energy saving tyre.

I put my details in and i'm shocked to find - ?48 saving OVER THE WHOLE LIFE OF THE TYRE!!!what a waste of time!that barely even covers the cost of the (i'm guessing) more expensive tyre.

My tyres are 60psi - this will save me hundreds if not thousands over the life of the tyre!

it all depends on how much you drive. but yes low rolling resistance tires are proven to improve fuel consumption.

As long as you wear them out, it doesn't matter -- you're driving 50,000 miles (or however long they last) no matter "how much you drive". If you never wear out tires, but have to replace them due to issues other than treadwear, then you certainly shouldn't spend more on LRR tires, or any decent tires -- I'd say you should buy used tires, or at least very cheap new ones.

I'd wonder how much more those tires cost. I'd save $210 dollars, according to that calculator, making them well worth buying instead of some other tires. Yes, I currently pump my tires up to 50psi, but I would do the same with those LRR tires.

I am happy to see any attempts at marketing LRR tires.

My new Michelins at $231 total installed with free balancing for life, and guaranteed for 80k miles, actually cost me 3 MPG average.

The 15 year old original tires were actually in fairly decent shape, so I kept them.

The difference in ride quality, handling, braking, as well as tire noise are worth the loss in mileage, although it would have been nice to not have to sacrifice mileage in the first place.
