HX CVT or Manual

I am searching for something that is fuel efficient for my wife. I have been having a lot of trouble finding another VX. It looks like in our price range the HX is something that is the est option. Should we avoid the CVT and go with a manual, or is the CVT okay? I have heard some bad things about the CVT and just wanted to get input.
Thanks,
Steve

AVOID the CVT at all costs !!!!!!!!!!!!

They are very unreliable and always break down.

Do a quick google search and you will see that the CVT is a piece of junk

If you need an automatic trans, the get a DX with A/C

its light and is very basic (no sunroof, no power windows/mirrors/door locks/ cruise control).....

The CVT has been troublesome for all years in the 1996 - 2005 HX

Thank you for the replies. I think I could get her to go with a 5 speed like my VX as she is okay driving that from time to time. Any suggestions on what model for a Honda up to $5K or so?
Thanks.

Is there a particular year or range for the HX where they got better economy than other years ?
