Has anyone built a successful desulfator with free plans and cheap parts? I haven't tried, but I'd like to hear if anyone here has.

This my own design. Plans are $15, but parts are probably the cheapest of any design. Just one IC and one transistor.

Since it doesn't get driven much I've been tempted to put a deep cycle battery in the Buick... The battery in the car is only a year old, and I have to jump start the car every day I want to drive it.

The first one is the sweet one. it just uses a 555 timer and a FET.

I put a deep cycle in my Buick, because it was the only battery I had around. It's probably not a true deep cycle, it's just a cheap WalMart battery marked "deep cycle" and I've heard that those are no different from common starting batteries...

Maybe if I build a desulfator I'll restore one of my old batteries to usable condition.

There's a tid-bit in my text book that says to fully discharge a battery by connecting a light bulb or similar. and then fully recharge. and repeat a couple times will desulfate a battery.

also that epson salt will bring a battery back to life.

Tough to recharge a sulfated battery with "smart" chargers. I guess the only people who really think those are smart are the people who sell new batteries.

who said anything about a smart charger? I have a sch****** something charger from schucks that works great. No problem charging a battery at any state of charge.
