When crude was $140 gas was $4.00. Crude is now $35. What is going on?

On the bright side:
Diesel is starting its annual drop, another $0.03 decline at the pump near work today. My other pump nearer to home is usually lower yet, but today was still the same $2.499. I'll watch until this weekend when I'll probably buy. |
In BC, a big part of the price we pay for gas is in fact tax. I guess tax will not fluctuate along with the price of crude oil:(.

I've noticed gas prices rising around here, too.
It's up about $.45 from it's lowest price last Fall. |

Ok, they have been holding at between $2.00-2.10 for the past few days around here.
Years ago, they used to post the gas price, and the various taxes amounts seperately and then show the total per gallon on the pumps, but those days are long gone now. As I recall, the total price was mostly taxes. You could look at the price structure while you were pumping. Too bad because it would be interesting. And with gas prices, the price is always listed as a dollar amount + 9/10 of a penny and never rounded up to the next penny....... Anybody know why?? |
Its gone up here, but most stations around here are still $1.89 - $1.93. There is a Citgo that offers a 5 cent cash discount, and their gas is $1.81 after the discount, but I refuse to knowingly buy Venezuelan gasoline. I don't care how cheap it is.

Our governor is announcing a $0.19 per gallon increase in gas tax today.
Good thing I live so close to the NH border... -Bob C. |

Anyhow, since traditionally there was always a fractional value attached to the price of gas, it just stuck. Pumps could easily pump for $1.93.5 instead of $1.92.9, but since they have the decimal place there they just put it as high as possible (to get as much money as you from possible). It's kinda the same way that a new couch will cost you $999 instead of $1,000- essentially the same price, but one seems less than the other. -BC |
