take off a/c belt?
i'm getting about 28 mpg 50/50 city highway with the 3 speed auto, I live in seattle so a/c is probably used once or twice in a summer, so im thinking to just take off the belt until its July, then take it off from september on.
how much of a percentage would this help? i'm really hoping to nail 30 mpg with this 3 speed auto, im so used to getting 45 mpg on a 5 speed civic DX. |
well when your not using the AC the compressor is freewheeling anyways so its like its not there.
but on some cars if you use the defroster it still enguages it to run the condenser... |
I just took it off.. see what happens with it.

I don't think it will make much of a difference.

I agree that it won't make much difference, but it's worth a try for anyone with separate belts rather than a single serpentine belt. It costs nothing, risks nothing, doesn't affect function, doesn't have any cosmetic effect, and isn't even much work.

Not much work, eh? Take a good look at the a/c belt on your LeSabre. I'd be willing to bet that you'd have to take every single belt off to get the a/c belt off. Then, as long as you're at it you might as well replace all the other belts with new ones when you put it back togeather. When summer comes, you're not going to want to take it all apart to put the a/c belt back on, so you will just drive another vehicle on hot days.
