How much to ask for my 1992 VX? (pics)
 

My VX has been the best combination of efficiency and utility, but sadly I have to sell it. Located in Boston, Mass. Cameraphone picture attached. The details:

1992 Honda Civic VX
184,000 miles
Second owner
Starts and runs fine
Does not lose/use oil
Red body in good shape other than rear wheel well rust
Original VX rims
No modifications
Nice tires, Michelins with probably 90 percent tread
New brakes and rotors last year
AC
Old stereo is no good
Old beat Haynes manual included
54 mpg on a 70 mph highway tank last summer

How much do people think I should ask for it?

why are you selling? It's pretty hard to find older cars in good condition, but when you do find them, they don't sell for THAT MUCH MORE compared to those that need work.

I'll start the bidding at $200. LOL

I know, I'd love to keep it for both the efficiency and utility, but it takes up space (which is in short supply in the city), plus I could use the money, plus I've gotten used to driving a shinier newer car. Makes me feel shallow just typing that. :o

I just paid $600 last fall for a 93 with 190000miles. It needed brakes all around and it doesn't look as nice. Whats blue book?

The interior is in good shape. The seats are in great shape, no tears or damage at all. Front seats are much more supportive than those in 1998 and 2001 civics I've been in, plus they look way better too. I've wondered, did VX's get SI seats? Never been smoked in. The steering wheel, dash, and shifter knob/boot are in fine shape. The carpet ain't so hot, but the car's been around for a while.

A year or two ago the car got some water in it. Don't know if it was from the open window, or drains plugged with leaves, or a bad grommet or something.

It's also a little stiff to shift. My mechanic said everything looked fine. He checked, drained, and refilled transmission oil, but no difference. Im guessing some part of the shift linkage could use some lubrication. But it still drives fine and still got 54 mpg on that 70 mph highway tank last summer.

After looking at previous vx's listed/sold, I'm guessing I could get $1800-2300 for it. Bbnmcas, how interested are you? PM me if you want. I'll be posting it for sale in a few days, here and craigslist and ...?

i paid $2,500 for my. seller was DEAD set on that price. These things are WELL worth it, if they are clean, no mechanical problems, etc... i would suggest $1800-2500 myself... good luck with the sale.

Depends how quickly you need it sold.

If you spend $100.00 bucks upfront and get it detailed waxed and make it look as nice as possible without putting BIG money into it you could get 3k if nice pictures were taken.

If you have maitenance records and it has a clean bill of health from carfax all these things boost the price you can ask. Also, with gas going up 20 cents in the last 2 weeks you may want to hold onto it for another month or so and see where prices go. If you don't wait I would try to market it that way, kind of play with peoples head and tell them to beat the rush and get gas efficient vehicle before petrol prices skyrocket. When gas was 4 bucks a gallon the SKY was the LIMIT on the asking prices for VX's in good condition and A/C is an extra in a Vx not all of them have it, another plus for your car.

I would post the car for sale on as many gas saving sites as possible and probably list it on ebay and let everyone bid on it.
