Strange fuel-up calculations with odometer.

Want to report a bug. I am using odometer for fuel up data entry. I always entered integral number of km only, with no decimal point. However, some of the fuel ups shown a mileage ending with 0.9 (also rarely 0.1) in the milage. After many fuel ups, the data will ended up missing a km or two due to these missing 0.1kms.

Could that happen because your site always store data in miles and convert back and forth then lost the accuracy?

Yes, that's exactly it. We store everything in miles and US gallons to make converting between units for display easier. In the process of conversion the numbers lose some accuracy.

It's true that you'll lose some accuracy over the long haul, but we feel like that loss is acceptable. The method of tracking that Fuelly uses isn't scientific in any way—we're not measuring every drop of fuel that passes through the vehicle under controlled conditions. Tracking your fuel economy is meant to give you a sense of how your vehicle performs.
