Fuelly's EPA Estimates are Based Upon Old EPA Estimates
 

Can Fuelly's Database be updated with the new EPA estimates from the updated testing procedures instead of old EPA estimates specifically for 2007 model vehicles?

The EPA changes in testing began in 2008. However, the EPA computed the new EPA estimates for 2007 models. The revised EPA numbers would be more relevant in comparing ones mpgs with that of the EPAs.

Unfortunately, the only EPA estimates we have access to are those estimates made available by the EPA for download, located here. Once the EPA makes the new estimates available in a format we can use, we'll update them here.

Or if there's some formula we can apply to the old numbers to get them closer to the new estimates we could to that too. The EPA has an estimate update calculator on the site that's independent from specific models, but we have no way of knowing how they're arriving at the new numbers.

As far as I know it varies via make and model. It would be hard to input all the numbers.

I'd like to see the newer EPA estimates as well, since they seem to be more realistic.

Thanks for pointing that out ObliteRon, looks like we could use their formula. I'll do some tests and see how far off the calculation is from the actual per model new numbers.

This came up today in another thread, but I'll update here. It looks like we can calculate the new city and highway numbers with the math in the calculateMpg function. But I can't get from those new numbers to the new Combined estimate.

In the example from today, the new MPG estimates are 12 city, 16 highway, and 13 combined. I'm not sure how they get to 13 combined—it's not simply adding the two numbers and dividing by 2. And even the unrounded totals from calculateMpg don't give a combined value of 13. I can't find the method the EPA uses to calculate combined MPG anywhere. Frustrating.
