Mag Light
 

I have an old 3-cell Mag light that is very useful this time of year when I have to look for addresses in the dark.
Problem has always been that Mag Light flashlights suck-up batteries and a weak yellow beam doesn't do much illuminating.
So, yesterday I bought a LED replacement bulb. My hope was for extended battery life and I was praying it would still be adjustable and might have at least some of the range of the original.
WOW!
The sucker is waaay better!
It now casts an almost laser tight beam of bright white light a hundred yards.

I have at least 3 mag lights. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, the LED conversion on the Mag Lites is well worth it. Pretty much pays for itself after about 4-6 hours of use, where you'd have to replace the batteries if you didn't convert.

Where does one get the LED bulb?

UPDATE!

The Ace Hardware salesman said; "lets see if it works." It did, so I bought it.

I wondered .... and called MagLite and asked if there was anything wrong with using their 3watt LED for a 4-cell light in my 3-cell MagLite,
and I was told that the proper bulb for the 3-cell would perform better and use less power.

Then I discovered Ace Hardware doesn't normally carry the MagLite replacement bulb. I had found the only one that had their own stash.

I remember the 5 cell mag lites I used to use on the ambulance.

I know Harbor Freight sell the Mag-Lite with the LED...I think they sell the replacement as well. I'll have to check and maybe get one for mine (if I can find it...)

I just went and got a Lithium powered Luxon 230 lumins adjustable flashlight - a little pricy but well worth the extra because of the adjustable beam intensity. The highest setting it lasts for 4 hours the lowest setting about a week of continuous use and is bright enough to read with. With the reflector removed the beam is 90 degrees of incredible light that is even and will light up a 6 foot spot on the ground almost like daylight. It runs on a single 18650 lithium "laptop" cell or two 123A cells.

I was just digging through some old threads and I saw this... I just picked up a 2D LED Maglite at Grainger a few weeks ago. I think its the best flashlight I've ever owned!
