Earth Hour tomorrow! lights out 1 hour

https://www.guardian.co.uk/environmen...climate-change

join in around the world with 2 billion hopefully ceremoniously doing this,
I am on 5watts of light right now, and loving it. why not do it all the time?

GasSavers_BIBI 03-26-2010 09:35 AM

not enough light to read or whatch tv at night kills my eyes

so I save on other less usefull things

i switch back from fluorescent bulb to normal bulb

spotaneagle 03-26-2010 03:51 PM

I have my light fixtures painted semi-gloss white, and it adds 2x the brightness sometimes..

a good ceiling mounted bulb in the center of the room with the whole fixtures coated in 2 coats of semi gloss= super bright, put a 14watt bulb on that socket

That will help the world

VetteOwner 03-30-2010 02:11 PM

the idea is neat and if you want to go for it.

BUT everyones gonna turn them right back on and if not more the next hour because of being bored, or thier gonna drive somewhere (uses multiple forms of energey) that is using power lol

kinda like those "boycott fuel on this date" kinda things, wont make a dent in the oil companys profits lol

I have found that gestures that make people feel good about themselves do not help anyone, much less "the world."
Free Enterprise does.

spotaneagle 03-30-2010 06:43 PM

yea I fell for it, i actually turned out my light cause im a sapppppy treee huggga herherher lolmelongtimesz

owwwhh
i burned a candle though and that is supposed to make me not create heat to add to this warming thing..

ohhhh

duhhh

to bad that a candle is hot, its like stretching the truth, plus why at night? then you have to air out the house from the burning candle smell.. that wastes energy, what the heck, this is retarded, how about the northern hemisphere does it in june and south in december

whatever you guys are totally uncreative, at least the republiburnoilfossilpolluters
get creative when they make up lies about you and spice it up... hell i havent had this much fun laughing at old men getting mad in i cant remember how long..

mental note: stop thinking out loud

GasSavers_JoeBob 03-30-2010 07:43 PM

Dang! I missed it! OTOH, I expect that in the community wherein I live, Earth Hour was honored more in the breach than in the observance...

shatto 03-30-2010 10:14 PM

I went out to see the lights but there weren't any.

spotaneagle 03-31-2010 06:08 AM

turning out lights at night is a dumb idea

spotaneagle 03-31-2010 06:09 AM

its like a public apology same level of uselessness

My house is all electric and my bills average $40-50/mon ($70-80 in winter this year, $20-30 in summer last year).

I use an incredibly small amount of energy. I pride myself on that.

Similar households (friends) and neighbors have told me about their $200-300/mon energy bills. I find it shocking and wonder how in the heck they're racking up that much useage.

I guess I just tough out the seasons. It was 48-50*F in my place most of the winter, summer months the stat is set at 84*F... 77*F when company is coming over.

spotaneagle 03-31-2010 03:55 PM

20 a month here too, how about instead of turn the lights off at night and trip over everything

how abouut we have out own little thing..

how about a swap out 3 light bulbs for more efficient replacement bulbs day

that would get alot more accomplished

Do you live alone, you and the wife, or are there kids also? Are you 23 years old or 55? When I lived alone in my 20s, I had $15-20 electric bills, and $5 gas bills. My wife moved in, she was home all the time, of course she wasn't able to handle temperature extremes as well as I was, and we've both gotten older and feel those extremes more than we used to.

Nowadays, electric bill runs about $40-50/month in the winter, a little less in spring and fall, up to about $100 in summer. Gas runs about $90/month in the winter, about $15 in the summer. That's using CFLs throughout the house, evaporative cooler, an energy-star window AC or two, thermostat set at 66 in the winter (60 at night).

Mind you...this is a 55 year old house with single pane windows and a couple ill-fitting doors.

I'm 24, live alone... g/f comes and goes as she pleases but 9 times out of 10 it's just me here.

I know that makes up for a lot of it. I don't rub anything in, I just enjoy my abilities to happily endure the variants. My friends w/ babies always have like $300/mon utilities. I realize you gotta keep a baby warm and comfy, or cool and calm. I'd say it sucks for them, but I'm sure parenthood is well worth the financial burden.
