LRR question
My 93 VX is about due for new shoes. I want to go back to the original size, 165/70 13. I'm sure someone with this car has LRR tires on it. I guess what i'm asking is about is first hand experience on their VX with LRR tire brands.

I owned a '95 VX from brand new until 2007 when I sold it with 225,000 miles on it. I couldn't find a low mileage replacement, so I bought a '95 DX hatchback and installed a VX transmission. I bought a set of Sumitomo HTR T4, size 175/70/13 tires and have put about 60,000 miles on them. They're definitely LRR tires (and 51 psi max)...the car rolls forever. But they have - at best - marginal wet and dry traction and handling characteristics. The only reason I didn't buy the 165s is because they were $10 more per tire than the common 175 size.
You should search the Gassaver.org forums for other LRR tire threads because a lot has been written about them. But I'm pretty sure the Sumitomo HTR T4 is the only LRR option for 165/70/13. If you're willing to stick w/ 175/70/13, you have many options such as the Sumitomo T4, Michelin Destiny, Michelin Harmony and Michelin X. I also recall a Kumho tire mentioned on one of the threads. |

By getting these tires, you'll guarantee that your odometer and speedometer will be accurate. But yes, cems70 is right when he says that you'll get a much bigger selection if you go up a size in tires.. One benefit I forgot to mention is that the 165/70-13 tires weigh less than the 175/70-13 tires which should help with acceleration and mileage a bit. |
