Yaris Sedan auto getting 50mpg?
 

:thumbup: If you Youtube MPGOMATIC and look for the review of the Yaris sedan. They got 48 - 50mpg average on a automatic. WOW. And they tested it well. windows up,down, a/c on/off,cruise control on/off. I think i know what my next car will be. :thumbup:

Wow. That's a strong beatdown of the EPA rating: 29/35.

I have used a Yaris 2007 sedan automatic with cruise control at 60mph, no A/C on, windows up, and hypermyling in mind and I got MAX 43mpg (5,5L /100km).

Those # are on a 190 miles highway run, summer, car had more then 5k miles.

So maybe 48-50 is a high target.

it wasn't a target. On the video, he got 48-50mpg on the highway. He used the tried and true Scangauge II.

I rented an automatic Yaris hatch last Summer, and averaged 41 or 42 mpg for three tanks driving all around New England. 50 mpg is optimistic for normal driving, but achievable under the right conditions.

That pretty optimistic but not impossible as the CAFE HWY MPG is 48MPG. Both the Yaris A/T and my '98 Civic LX with the Manual Transmission get around 48MPG HWY on the CAFE cycle. In practice, according to the Scangauge, I get between 48-52MPG when cruising at 55mph in my Civic LX so with this in mind, it is indeed possible to get that mileage in the Yaris so long as they're cruising at around 55mph on level ground and probably with the A/C off.

I haven't hit the 40 MPG mark on the Yaris 08 Liftback yet but than again I haven't been driving 65 or less for most of my 135 mile commute. For some reason my 1995 Civic which was rated for 26 MPG gave me higher mileage in terms of percentage up to 33 MPG on average and I've hit 40 MPG or more several times.

You should say whether or not your yaris is an automatic or manual in your garage profile...

I dont know if this is real or not,or if he messed with the video or car to show that kind of
mileage. But With 11.1 gallon gas tank and if the guy was a hypermiling
(which i dont think he is with the fast take offs and 90mph+ that he does on the video)
doing 49.7 AVG MPG. is 551.67+ miles a Tank. That would be 725 fill ups or 8,048 gallons of
gas in less then 4 years. WOW!!
And with the national avg of $2.89/gallon He would have spent $22,259.56 on gas in less then
4 years or about $5,564.89 a year!
Again, I have no idea if its real or not, but I can saw is WOW. What does this guy do for a
living?

The problem is, I don't think that guy has any clue as to whether or not he was on a truly flat road or descending down a grade. There is a stretch of highway near where I live called Highway 680 and I like to drive down to San Ramon or Dublin. When you drive south on this highway, there is a very slight grade up it and I usually get 45mpg cruising along this.. However when I go north on the same highway I get 55mpg.. You wouldn't notice the grade unless you happen to monitor MPG going both north and south on this stretch of highway. So to get an idea of what my flat cruising MPG should be, you just add the two numbers together and divide by two, getting 50mpg, this is cruising at 55mph however.. Anyway this guy just drove down one stretch and called it a day, not trying to drive around in the opposite direction. For all we know he could have had a very slight descent and therefore get the number he did. I do like though that he was driving 65mph and not 55mph but it still doesn't help he didn't control for variables.
