bicycle speedometer on dumptruck?
my dumptruck speedometer doesn't work. I want to use a bicycle speedometer. will a wireless model be effected by my nonresistor sparkplugs? A wired model would need the wires lengthened, so I would prefer the wireless model.

Are the tires on your truck the same diameter as the bicycle tire that speedometer is designed for? If not it will not give an accurate reading. I also have doubts that a wireless bike speedometer would have the strength to push signal through the cab of a truck. In most instances a typical setup for that device would only be 2 or 3 feet away, with no obstructions. I also wonder if it will stand up to the sustained road speeds that a truck achieves.

the bicycle speedometer will work with any size tire. you mount the magnet near the rim or brake drum, measure the tire diameter, and and enter the info into the computor. the bicycle speedometor will be accurate to speeds much higher than my dumptruck is cabable of going. I have seen them used on motorcycles, and they are very accurate. much cheaper than a gps, my second choice.

Awesome idea. I'd use a wired one for reliability and lower cost though.
I may use this idea on an upcoming project... |
hmm
how small of a diameter can they go? (thinking of racing lawnmower spedometer) but really is it that hard to find a replacement spedometer for a dumptruck? |
