Summer seems to be our slow time, it usually picks up in the fall, and it definitely picks up if gas goes over $3/gal.

And the number of people who violently attack anyone who doesn't own a compact gas miser doesn't help.

This is a small forum, we just don't get a huge amount of traffic...and Biffmeistro is right too.

One of the things that I like to think makes us different from similar forums is our acceptance of people wanting to improve fuel economy in whatever they choose to drive. A logical suggestion to choose a different vehicle is fine but haranguing and continued hassling about it are not cool.

Re: This place seems dead...

I've felt this way for about a year now.

This forum needs energy... there's tons of people using the garage for their gaslogs but only about 20 active forum members.

Personally, I sign in here at least 2-3 times a day just hoping for some interesting projects, topics, or discussion. It's dwindled down to where that rarely happens and it's discouraging.

If it wasn't for the forum layout here being so user friendly compared to cleanmpg.com I'd have probably moved on a while back. I just don't like the software they're using on cleanmpg.com.

I do envy their active member's list though. I noticed while surfing their site that a lot of our big name guys (guys with high profile cars or exceptional MPG) like cheapybob, basjoos, bobc, etc. are all active there, whereas they don't come here anymore.

I think it has to do with it being Summer and people are busy doing other things. It seems slow on all the other race forums that I visit also.

I like this forum. There are a lot of regular good people here with great knowledge.

Also, with the price of gas going down right now, people are less motivated to learn about economy. I just bought gas last night for $2.559. When the national average goes over $3/gal again is when we'll be busy.

Project84 - what sorts of projects are you interested in?

We've also fixed it so that attacks are not permitted in any way. This site went far too long letting people say just anything, and our rules only permit positive and constructive conversation.

Just more people pushing the limits, being innovative, taking initiative.

2-3 years ago at the gas price peak there were people in here talking a different language all together. I realize gas price and member activity is linear. It's just a shame more people didn't stick around and continue to be proactive in their fuel useage.

I'm by no means driving super efficient current technology powered vehicles, as is the case with most people here. I just think the few of us with "staying power" to want to continue the challenge aren't really thinking outside the box much these days.

For me, increasing FE is as much in my blood now as increasing horsepower or handlind on my other cars. I suppose some (most) people lost that connection when it became less important to save money....

Typical of the US really... being REactive instead of PROactive.
