Convert Civic CX to VX question?
I have a CX that is in need of a rebuild soon. I would like to turn it into a vx. (for mpg) My question is can I turn my block into a VX by installing vx pistons and getting a Z1 head?
I guess my question in a nutshell is, is a CX and VX block the same? I know the pistons and head is different. Anything else? P.S. I know I would also need to change my 02 to 5 wire and get a vx ecu and possibly intake manifold? |
Re: Convert Civic CX to VX question?
Your CX has a D15B7
* Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in) * Bore and Stroke : 75 ? 84.5 mm (3.0 ? 3.33 in) * Compression : 9.2:1 * Power : 102 hp (76.1 kW, 109 ps) @ 5900 rpm (102 hp @ 5900 rpm in U.S.) * Torque : 98 ft?lbf (13.5 kg/m, 133 Nm) @ 5000 rpm * Valvetrain : SOHC (4 valves per cylinder) * Cam Gear: 38 Tooth * Piston Code : PM3 * Fuel Control : OBD-1 MPFI * ECU Code: P06 * Head code: PM 9-6 and a VX is running a D15Z1 * Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in) * Bore and Stroke : 75 ? 84.5 mm (3.0 ? 3.33 in) * Rod Length : 137 mm * Rod/Stroke : 1.62 * Compression : 9.3:1 * Power : 90 hp (67.1 kW, 91.3 ps) @ 5600 rpm (92 hp @ 5500 rpm USDM) * Torque : 98 ft?lb (13.5 kg/m, 133 Nm) @ 4800 rpm (97 ft?lb @ 3000 rpm USDM) * Valvetrain : SOHC VTEC-E (USDM- Lean Burn Federal Emissions 49 State) (3-4 valves per cylinder depending on RPM) * VTEC Switchover : 2500 rpm * ECU Code : P07 * Fuel Control : OBD-1 MPFI while the blocks might be the same it would be much more cost effective to either buy a D15Z1 or pick up a JDM D15B D15B Vtec specs: # 1991-1995 Honda Civic EG4 (Japanese Market) # 1991-1995 Honda Civic EG8 (Japanese Market) # 1997 Honda Civic Ferio Vi EK3 (Japanese Market) * Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in) OR a D15Z7 * 3-stage VTEC * Found in: o 1996-1999 Honda Civic VTi EK3 and Ferio Vi + Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in) + Bore and Stroke : 75 ? 84.5 mm (3.0 ? 3.33 in) + Rod Length : 137 mm + Rod/Stroke : 1.62 + Compression : 9.6:1 + Power : 128 hp (95.4 kW, 130 ps) @ 7000 rpm + Torque : 102 ft?lbf (14.2 kg/m, 139 Nm) @ 5300 rpm + Valvetrain : SOHC VTEC (3-4 valves per cylinder, depending on rpm) + VTEC Switchover : 5800 and 6200 rpm + Fuel Control : OBD-2 MPFI + ECU Code : P2J + Manual Transmission ECU Codes : P2J-003 (OBD2a), P2J-J11 (OBD2b) + Lean burn capable * Bore and Stroke :75,0?84,5 mm * Rod Length : 137 mm * Rod/Stroke : 1.62 * Compression : 9:3:1 * Power : 128 hp (95.4 kW, 130 ps) @ 8600 rpm * Torque : 102 ft?lbf (14.1 kg/m, 138 Nm) @ 9200 rpm * Redline : 7200 rpm * Rev-limiter : 7500 rpm * Valvetrain : SOHC VTEC (4 valves per cylinder) * VTEC Switchover : 1500 rpm * VTEC crack at : 5500rpm * Head Code : P08 * Piston Code: P08-010 * Fuel Control : OBD-6 PGM-FI * ECU : pw0 p08 For a VX motor I'd search www.car-part.com it's a junkyard parts search For a JDM swap https://www.jdmenginedepot.com or https://www.jspecauto.com/ make sure you get a "full swap" which would include engine tranny and ecu. JDM engines all have between 35-50k on them. |
