I sat in one while I was in a Honda dealer recently. The dash is really good for a car in this price range. The gauges are awesome. The seats are extremely comfortable. I like the shape, but dislike the grille. The rear cargo partition does not latch (it looks like a folding seatback, and would be in the non-U.S. 2+2 version). The cargo area has a high floor and is compromised by the teardrop shape of the rear and the severely sloping hatch. I doubt paper grocery sacks could stand up in the back. Tall luggage would have to be stacked flat, and even then, would likely spoil the view out the rear (which is already suffering from small quarter windows and a high rear backlight, which is split into 2 sections.

I did not drive the car, but I agree with many on this site in that it would be a better car with either a more aggressive hybrid powertrain, yielding less better mileage, or that it should offer the Fit's motor without all the hybrid components and probably yield similar, if not better mileage and performance. A Fit is quicker due to its lighter weight, yet it only gets marginally worse mileage with the manual transmission. I believe that if you got rid of the hybrid powertrain and the car lost 300 pounds in the process, you'd have a winner. I'd buy one if it had the Civic Si's 200 hp powertrain and weighed 2300-2400 pounds, as long as it still achieved at least 32 mpg highway.

I do think that the CR-Z could get decent mileage, though... Our Fit is averaging over 40 mpg in mixed driving, and it is only rated 33 on the highway. I just think that given the powertrain specs, the CR-Z should top 40 mpg. If you compare the CR-Z to the new Insight, it is smaller, lighter, offers marginally more power, but gets much worse mileage (in testing, at least).

It has great looks, and that may be enough for it to sell well. I wonder if it will turn into the first hot-rodded hybrid?

Ford Fiesta MSRP starting $13,320. 27 city and 37 highway mpg.

Honda CR-Z MSRP starting $19,200. 38 city and 41 highway mpg.


It looks like a Fiesta anyway, why not buy american and save $6k. The MPG difference between the two would take over 800,000 miles driven at $3.00/gal to equate to that $6,000 additional price. I don't think either of them will last 1/3 that long.

Or it would "cost you" $1,500 extra for fuel at $3/gal to drive the Fiesta 200,000 miles vs. the CR-Z.

So to drive the Honda CR-Z 200,000 miles it would cost you an estimated $33,834 at $3/gal and 41mpg including the purchase price. The Fiesta would cost $29,536. A difference of $4,297.

on the official ford site, they're claiming 29/40 for the fiesta. likely doesn't matter, we all know manufacture and EPA estimates can be beaten.

I have one and so far I really like it . I am getting around 43 mpg in the city, I have not driven on the highway that much. The car is very sporty , not a sports car by any means but if you need to accelerate to pass another car it will do that very well. I bought mine new last month . It is a 2013 model .

I bought a 2011 CR-Z with 15,000 miles on it in Feb. I have almost 30,000 on it now. The gas mileage has been over 40mpg. This is my commuter car, 30 miles highway, 10 miles city. The car is fun to drive, it has a tight ride, zips around corners nicely.
