Ah...for that kind of work a compact pickup would do fine, or a base model NA V6 full size.

Where have you heard the fuel economy for the ecoboost? Neither the Ford or EPA site have it. It isn't the exact same engine as in the Taurus SHO, which, IIRC, was only available with AWD.

Its coming up on Window Stickers now. I havnt found any in 4x2 yet but in In 4x4 the 3.7L is rated 16/21 and the EB 3.5L at 15/21.

Considering it can put out more power over the entire power band than the 5.0, that isn't bad. Far short of Ford's early prediction though.

But if you don't need the extra power, then you don't need to pay for it.

I'm salivating over the 3.7 liter F150 4x4. The Blue Beast F350 was purchased for fuel economy and long range. I paid a $5K premium for the diesel, but mileage is no better than my old gas 1/2 ton pickups. And it rides like...a truck.

The 3.7 will give me better mileage and range, use cheaper gas, and allow me to get rid of my kidney belt. The only obstacle is my wife.

3.7L V6 (302/278) 6000 lb Towing - 17/23
3.5L EB (365/420) 11,300 lb Towing - 16/22
5.0L V8 (360/380) 10,000 lb Towing - 15/21
6.2L V8 - (411/434) 11,300 lb Towing - 13/18

4x4
3.7L V6 (302/278) - 16/21
3.5L EB (365/420) - 15/21
5.0L V8 (360/380) - 14/19
6.2L V8 (411/434) - 12/16



The 3.5L EB actually matches up more against the 6.2L in cost and performance and gets 22-31% better MPG ratings.

Most of the people that say v6 full size trucks suck are the ones with lead feet that expect it to pull 10k lb trailer without noticing and pass people with said trailer without downshifting, etc. 300 hp v6 is more than enough for 1k in the bed and 5k trailer.

heck I've done that with my2800lb 115 hp I4 91 toyota pickup. needs air assist shocks in back and pay attention to weight balance when loading to not put it's nose up but that's just preference.

Just purchased a 2011 Screw 4x2 with the 3.5L Ecoboost...thing drives great but I only have 300 miles on it right now.

Supposedly Ford will be putting out a true midsize truck mid 2012...

The 4.6 for isn't too bad an option. I could get 17 pulling a light trailer if speeds were kept below 60. It was a standard cab 2004 heritage f150 with the standard gears.
