Hatchbacks

I hate that automakers constantly argue that Americans hate hatchbacks, and that they don't sell here. This is even worse with wagons, of which there are darn few left.

But I noticed this: the last 7 garage entries are all hatchbacks. Keep buying them, and maybe we can convince automakers to keep building them!

...And apparently I cannot spell "hatchbacks" correctly with the cast on my hand.

Fixed the thread title for you.

I wouldn't take this site as representative of the US new car market...

Re: Hatchbacks

several people I know have given thumbs up to the hatchbacks.

the matrix and the vibe
the subarus (outback)
the yaris

there are people out there that want them. I noticed though if you have a car that has an option of a sedan or hatchback (5 door model) the hatchback is usually more expensive. it is true for the versa and the aveo though isn't true about the yaris. there are others but I can't recall right now.

Re: Hatchbacks

yea, bigger cities like hatchbacks more because u can cram more crap in them and still hold 4 people (usually) shorter and easier to park too.

i like them because they seem to be one of those anomalies where you cant believe how much stuff u can actually fit in one haha.

My last real estate broker had a Fleetwood and a 240Z 2+2 which could carry more A-frame open-house signs than the Caddy and he still didn't need to drive with the hatch open.

Yeah, Americans don't like wagons. We wouldn't know what to do with them.

I hauled a water heater home in the VX. Another time, it was 20+ bags of mulch (the stiffer springs kept me off the bump stops). My washing machine fits in the Fit. I have also hauled 16 boxes of tile, plus 2 50-lb bags of mortar, 3 35-lb bags of grout, and a wet tile saw, plus a passenger, all in the Fit.

The boxy shape of the Volvo sure comes in handy.

i had a 91 chevy cavalier hatch a few years back and loved it! aside from lots of cargo space, it was very torquey...had the RS w/ the V6. it surprised other drivers who "thought" they'd just simply pass the "slow station wagon."
