Purge Solenoid Code
 

my wife's v6 camaro has a P1441 trouble code. a search comes up purge solenoid. does anyone have any experience w/ this issue?

my question would be in regard to what to do. i checked the vacuum lines to the solenoid and they check out. the part is just over 20$ bucks(plus i still have my advance coupon), so should i just replace it?

$20 for a new one? Personally I'd just replace the part.

if it were me, I would hit the solenoid since it is so inexpensive but if you still have issues, you may want to look at this site or look at it first. either way here it is for you viewing enjoyment

The purge solenoid can probably be tested. Remove it from the vehicle and apply 12v, see if it moves. I was able to do that with my vent solenoid...it clicked but didn't move.

Also check if it's sealed well.

You sure that's not the famous OBD2 code for what happens when you don't click the gas cap a couple times after filling up the gas tank?
When did the code appear? After filling the car with gas?

I'd unscrew and then screw on the gas cap again until you hear at least one click. Then drive the car for about ten minutes and see if it goes out.

The usual code for loose gas cap is P0440 (which also indicates vent solenoid).

His code is showing vacuum in the gas tank which he certainly wouldn't have with a loose gas cap.

yup, the gas cap is fine and there are no vacuum leaks. it's been raining all week, so i haven't had a chance to check for the seal or test it.

not sure how long the code has been there(probably a while), but the car has been running rough for a while now(and getting worse). there was a downstream O2 code that we ignored for a while(money issues), so who knows when the purge code came about.

anyway, thanks guys! i'll update when this rain subsides. keep us in mind(our safety), 'cause there have been tornadoes touching down w/ the rain and thunder storms here!

funny story, I actually had a bad gas cap. I got that crummy generic gas cap code and just reset it a few times. eventually I started investigating. turns out the seal around my gas cap had about a dozen cracks in it and it wasn't sealing properly. that was funny because I'm the only guy I know that has actually had a bad gas cap. $10 at napa, easy fix.

still funny to tell people that I acutually had a BAD gas cap.

I remember the last time I had the Buick in for an emissions test. Guy was shocked that the original cap still functioned properly with no leaks.
