Si wreck

The Si just bit it. Someone ran a stop sign and I couldn't miss him. His F150 was going left to right, and I hit him with my left front, destroying the front end of the Si. He left the scene. I gave chase and he pulled over a few blocks away. The cops came. He had no insurance.

He got off.

I spun the tires when I pulled away, mad that he didn't go to jail or get a ticket.

I got 4 tickets for spinning my tires.

Where's the justice?

Re: Si wreck

That stinks- it is a good thing that it doesn't sound like you were hurt- hopefully you have underinsured/uninsured coverage and that will fix your car or get you something equivalent.

Re: Si wreck

Wow, that is really unfair. I hate when it goes like that. You try to do the right thing and get punished while the guy who does everything wrong is let go. Happens to me all too often!

... and the Civic shall be declared a total loss....

4 tickets for spinning your tires? Is that one ticket per tire? :)

Re: Si wreck

(total loss) that is jacked. you drove the thing away? that is really messed up.

I was under the impression (and it may be state to state) that if there is an accident and one of the people has no insurance that it is automatically his fault. that is how it is in NC, at least to my knowledge.

is insurance at least going to cover it? man I really liked the SI hatchbacks. maybe you can get one of the newer SIs. they have more power but not available in a hatch.

dang it. hopefully this will turn out alright for you.

Man that really sucks!!!

Do you have any pics of the damage?

Re: Si wreck

Sounds like the DMV needs to step in on this one. I can't believe the cop let the guy get away with leaving the scene of an accident. Get talking with your insurance company about this. Loosing your cool is never a good thing in these situations. It is always a good idea to obey the law under all conditions so the one at fault sticks out more!

depends on the state, IL its mandatory to have insurance and a hefty fine without it and no insurance tickets are always delt out. Now the person may be innocent in whatever scene but they will still get a ticket. dunno what indy does...

who had the right of way? im assuming you hit his front right cornner?

IL is goofy about that sometimes, if you hit someone behind the fender (door rear quarter) then it can be your fault for not paying attention driving too fast for conditions etc as the figure if you hit them that far back then you werent doing somehting right. of course that isnt in any book but from what ive seen and heard from cops and accidents...

also your lucky u didnt get arrested as spinning the wheels and excessive acceleration are known as wreckless driving in this state....

IndyFetch 04-06-2011 04:23 PM

Re: Si wreck

I was going straight. He ran a stop sign on my right. He started to brake, so I swerved left thinking he was going to stop. He accelerated again, and I swerved right, and caught him in the left rear with my left front. The step bumper on his F150 cut my car open like a tin can.

I got four tickets when I left after the cops told me to go home. I got one for unsafe start (spinning the tires because I was pissed that the guy didn't go to jail). I got one for doing a U-Turn. The cops had the road partially blocked, and I was going to take my heap home using the shortest route possible, and I would have had to circle the block if I went straight. I got a ticket for not using my turn signal. WHAT turn signal? My turn signal was 2 blocks away on the side of the road. I got a ticket for unsafe lane change. I did not change lanes. I don't get it.

Upload your pics to photobucket.com or tinypic.com and paste the provided IMG codes in a post here.

Re: Si wreck

I tried to paste from another site and it didn't work. I don't have photobucket or tinypic...

If I PM them you the site where they are located, would you post them for me?

Re: Si wreck

Sure, I can do that.

Re: Si wreck

lol real bumper FTW

anyways it sounds like you brought it upon yourself, at most you would have gotten unsafe lane change if anything. BUT you decided to be stupid and spin your wheels after leaving an accident cuz it didnt go your way. Judging by what you did after the accident i dont have any question you were flipping sh** the whole time. If I were the cop I would have done the same thing and throw everything I could get u for.

showing your immaturity leaving the accident and how you drive the cop prolly had little doubt u did change lanes and clip the guy. After all you are driving the stereotypical ricerocket mobile...think how many teens and whatnot the cops pulled over for stupid ****.

and how did you receive these tickets after the cop told you to go home? either A hes psychic and knew u were gonna do all that stuff after u left or B he had to pull you over again to ticket you (aka not a happy cop)

IndyFetch 04-06-2011 06:19 PM

Re: Si wreck

He pulled me over after I left. I was ticked off, since I had not ever been in an accident, and this jerk-off hit me and ran off... and my face and hands were full of glass to boot. The guy hit me less than a block from my own house, too.

When the cops first showed up, the truck and I had both stopped, and I was checking out my damage, since I was not able to stop at the scene of the crash. The first cop started out the conversation by telling me to get the **** back in the ****ing car. A great attitude to start with, since I was the one who was still on the phone with the dispatcher trying to GET the cops out there (which I will admit, took no time at all).

I just felt like the second that the cops got there, I was looked at as the stereotypical ricer kid, when I'm almost 30, have a clean driving record with no accidents and one ticket back in 2001. When the cop started "flipping me sh**," my attitude did indeed turn sour.

The '05 Si has been replaced with a 2008 Civic Si sedan.

Re: Si wreck

lol well sounds like you never heard of not pissing off the guy who makes the rules. just cuz hes having a ****ty day maybe if you calmed down and just complied and were calm the whole time he would have calmed down. its stressful being a cop.

i bet the guys bumper just had blue paint on it too

whyd you not just get the car fixed?

also why did you swerve so much and not just stop?

Re: Si wreck

This is what happens when you give the cops a tude.

theholycow 04-08-2011 02:52 AM

Re: Si wreck

It can be tough to remain calm after a crash, doubly so when you had to chase the other person to make him responsible. Adrenaline sure screws me up, and I can only imagine the amount of adrenaline after both a crash AND a chase.

GasSavers_Erik 04-08-2011 05:11 AM

Re: Si wreck

I think it is just natural to swerve away from danger as you slow down- especially when your brain knows that you will not be able stop in time.

I bet it would have been really hard for them to fix that mangled A pillar so that a new windshield would seal properly.

The car had $9,300 worth of damage. He started to stop, so I didn't start to brake. When he hit the gas again, it was too late. It was raining, too.

Adrenaline: Yes.

When I got home and opened my front door, I was on such a rush I ripped the screen door off its hinges. This was with my right hand, which I broke about a month ago, and just got out of a cast. And I'm a skinny guy.

If I could arrange this to happen on a schedule, I could be in the olympics.

ahh yea, and damn thats 9k in damage????

stupid plastic eggs nowadays... actual steel fendered/bumpered 80 or earlier car woulda just had to replace a fender and a mirror haha

i usually cover the brake with my foot in those kinda situations because ive come to terms with people that they are utterly retarded and worse than turkeys when it comes to rain...

Re: Si wreck

at that intersection, about 90 percent of drivers turn right, so most people pulling out of that road assume that drivers going the direction I was headed will turn right, and will not stop until the last second. I thought that's what this guy was doing. He started to stop, and then hit the gas and tried to beat me across the intersection... didn't work.

Since it's a unibody, along with every other new car out there (since the Ford Panther platform is now defunct), it would cost a ton to replace the A-Pillar and inner fender supports, radiator supports, etc. The car was still drivable, but it was bent.
