Which brand for degreaser and carburetor dip?
Which brand of purple degreaser is the good one? I bought a gallon of Purple Power but I'm not afraid to return it if I should have bought a different brand.

I've always known of Berryman Chem-Dip and that's what is mostly discussed on forums, but I stopped at the nearest parts store and they had Gunk Carb-Medic instead. I'd go with what I know works, except I've read that the Berryman product has been diluted sometime in the past few years due to regulations or lawsuits or something...and research indicates that the Berryman product that I can get is the California version. So, I don't know which works anymore. https://www.fuelly.com/attachments/fo...6ef43f9078.jpg vs. https://contentinfo.autozone.com/znet.../0996/image/4/ |
Re: Which brand for degreaser and carburetor dip?
I don't soak carb parts, I always just buy the cheap aerosol carb cleaner with the long red nozzle. Sometimes you have to give a passage or jet a few sprays, but they always come clean. Brake cleaner works well too.
IMO WD40 or carb or brake cleaner work well for degreasing (cleaning the insides of oil pans, valve covers etc.) |

I also use aerosol can carb cleaner for carbs, throttle bodies and their linkages. Aerosol cans of brake cleaner are good for removing oil and grime from other parts and dries without any oily residue left behind making it good especially if you need to get an area clean to try to locate an oil leak.

same here, i just spray them with a few cans of carb cleaner, usually just paint thinner in a spray can.

Paint thinner was ineffective for me on a lawnmower carb. It was my original plan...it's a fraction of the price.
I sure do use plenty of cans of aerosol carb cleaner for a variety of jobs, including carbs. |
