Re: 1000 miles to a tank
It's not going to be easy. But I think it's within reach to do a 400 - 450 mile tank

Re: 1000 miles to a tank
If you want it, you can do it. 500 is possible with that car. Every little thing counts, and the first mile of a trip counts for double. The engine burns more fuel to warm itself up, so do your best to use that for movement and not just idly turning the engine over.

yup. My last few years of hypermiling with Gassavers, i've learned that 51-53MPHG is the sweet spot for all corolla engines. Corolla, Vibe, Matrix, Prizm, Nova..etc Doesn't matter if it's a non-VVT-I or the VVT-I.

I always shake my head when see a cars tank range reported in an add or review. Unless you are planning to cross the Saharra with it, when does anybody worry about not finding a gas station? |
Re: 1000 miles to a tank
yup. for me, it's not even factor of running out of fuel--it's the stress on the fuel pump.

Re: 1000 miles to a tank
Some people are more concerned with how often they have to stop at a gas station and fill up than they are with their budget. It's a lazyness or busy schedule thing, although in places with annoying weather (New England winters or Texas summers) it could be about avoiding the weather.

Re: 1000 miles to a tank
It's more of a pushing the envelope thing for me, to see what's possible. And I share the concern about the fuel pump. Notice my latest 1000-mile tank I didn't run it dry. 12 gallons when my biggest fill was 13.8 so I left 1.8 gallons in the bottom. Unless I have a shot at breaking my distance record I won't push it.

Those that don't want to get out to pump gas can move to Oregon or NJ. |
Re: 1000 miles to a tank
In RI there are some full-serv gas stations as well as the more popular self-serv. Most people will not pay more for it, although I suspect when the weather is severe they will.
I wait in line to get the same pump I always get so that I can get accurate FE calculations. |
