89 Civic Hatchback/hf Project

I am new to the site, but really want to stick it to the oil companies and help out my wallet.

I have 91 Crx, getting about 43-45 mpg.(not for sale) But have 2 kids and need something w that has a rear seat. I recently bought a 89 civic hatch w/ no motor. It does have a 4speed tranny.

I have been collecting parts; complete 1.5 dx engine, hf head, 89-91 5speed, 88 4speed wagovan, and a 88 hf tranny. I did not know untill after I bought the Trans that there is a difference in the 88 and the 89-91 trans (teeth count) but I happen to have a local guy the is very good w trans (from d-series.org) that is finishing up a hybrid build of the gears out of the hf and the final drive of the 89-91 5speed.

My plan is to rebuilt the dx motor + the hf head, and put into the civic hatch along w the hybrid tranny. Hoping to get 50+mpg. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated! I wish I could say this would be a quick built, but my money tree is not doing so well! Realistic time frame of 6 months to a year. Once I figure out how to post pics I will.

I have some 13" SI wheels with good tires. Is there any certain type of tires that would help w fuel eff.? Also I will need a flywheel so if anyone has some suggestions.

Thanks!!

good luck w/ your project and remember than oil companies are not the bad guys...OPEC and govt taxation have more to do w/ inflated prices than do the guys working hard to convert oil to fuel.

theholycow can help you w/ posting pics.

The easy way to post pics is to upload them to Photobucket. Once they're there, Photobucket provides you with nice pre-formatted IMG tagged addresses that you just paste into the message you're posting.
