Best MPG TIRES????

Is their any data out their that compares different tires as to MPG? Common sense tells you that to have a less rolling resistance tire it will need to have a harder rubber compound and have a smoother tread design. Any suggestions on what tires offer the best MPG?? Thanks

Even in the same tire line, rolling resistance varies among various tire sizes. For this reason, its very difficult to obtain the data you're looking for. What type of vehicle and what tire size are we looking at?

Re: Best MPG TIRES????

Firestone, Goodyear, Michelin, and General Tire have given me good MPG. If you buy them in the stock sizes, they do pretty good, and last long, 40-60k average.

Good performance tires, aka, a wide low profie tire, Kumho and Master Craft, make a good tire.

I usually go for a tire with bands, about 5 across. I stay away from criss cross tire patterns, not only do they pull from left to right when changing lanes, they seem to get lower gas mileage.

I've had bad luck with Continental, they ride hard, uncomfortable.

Somewhere long ago a report was written about rolling resistance on SUV tires. Some had 7 pounds resistance, some had 11.

Hope it helps.
