88-91 sedan Civic dx

I was thinking of purchasing an civic ef sedan dx. From what I have read that the 1988 model civic has a different transmission than 89 to 91 teeth. Anyways, I was thinking of putting a HF transmission and than in the near future a D15z1 motor. I would prefer an 1988 since its lightest of all ef sedans. My goal is to get better mpg, but i don't want a crx or hb. I need a trunk. Has any on here done such a thing? if so tell or send me a link.

I haven't done it, but it's funny, I was just thinking about the same thing (Z1 in a 88-91 sedan), mainly because I love the EF sedan body style. Really cool little cars. If you do it, let us know how it turns out!

I found a car on craigslist near Seattle, Washington for 700obo. Doesn't run well and has tranny issues. Perfect for a swap. Just need to tow it to Portland, Oregon. Just a little rust on the back left corner of the trunk below taillight. I currently drive a Geo prizm which doesn't get THAT good of mileage, but i am going to sell it soon as I get this car. That is my update so far. :)

I finally found a 1989 civic dx sedan. Good condition. 5spd, ground control coilovers, tokico struts (blue), hx wheels, headers so far. looking for a hf transmission and d15z1 engine for the swap. :coolsmiley:

Here she is I just put the hx wheels on it that day I got her. I sold the wheels they origonaly had on it. They were taking red painted black mesh wheels. Now its in the shop getting the engine swap. The list thats being done as we speak are getting lowered with ground controls, tokico struts, new tranny mount, headers, water pump, the EXPENSIVE 02 sensor yeesh, timing belt jumper harness OBD0-OBD1 and D15Z1 motor. I couldnt find an HF tranny so ill put that in next month when i find a good running hf tranny. To be continued when I get the car finished this week with photos.
