Honda Question

We all know about the Honda Civic VX and its great fuel efficiency, but wasn't there another Honda Civic that had similar ability?

I'm not really sure, but wasn't there a Honda Civic LX or maybe an HX that got outstanding mpg that was made around 1996 to 1999? Can anyone verify or validate this? All the LX models I find are sedans, which is more appealing to some buyers. Sure would appreciate some feedback.

The Civic HX was the replacement for the VX. It was available from '96 through '05, and it was available with a 5-speed manual or a CVT. It did have a "VTEC-E" engine, but I am not sure if it had lean-burn. Since it was larger, heavier, and had shorter gearing than the VX, it was not as efficient. I think it was rated at 44 mpg highway back in the day. A friend of mine also had an '01-'05 Civic EX with the same engine, but a 4-speed auto. It was a special model with a grayed-out grille. I've never seen another one.

I have a 98 Civic HX and they have a Vtec-e leanburn engine. I get a consistent 50+ mpg.

So there is an HX. Got any pictures of one?

The hx was only in coupe form. Lean burn yes and stay away from the Cvt trans. They all fail. The trans in the hx isn't geared as tall as the vx. They also come with lots of creature comforts. Ie air power windows and such. They look just like all the other coupes from 96-00. They have the hx Wheels look like the vx but are 14.

Car models are like any living organism; start small, grow, grow, grow, die.

Seems there are two ways to get economy.
Buy the newest.
Buy the oldest and restore it.

My vx is in the restore process. Got it cheap. NO rust so remove all interior and rustproof and insulate inside panels. Two new axles new front pad and rotors added front swaybar and new front control arm bushings. New 02 here this week. Next it needs new struts and I plan on a rear disk swap and rear sway bar. And some prelude seats and she'll be a real champ then. If you want Mileage and comfort hx. If you want a hatch with milage try to find a presentable vx. I wanted nothing to do with a hybrid. I had a diesel Volvo a long time ago loved it but diesel is so pricey in Ohio and there are few here to buy used.

Oh I have a VX that does fabulous mpg's. I was just curious about the HX. I had heard there was a another strong Honda from 1996-2000 or so and wondered if was an HX or LX or what. Thanks for your answers. I'll see if I can find some pics of one. You should post some pics of your VX once you get it finished!!!

It will never be done. Lol. Needs a condenser for the air to work. Man. Worst $30.00 car ever.

You spent $30 on a car??????????????????????
