Did 2 new fuel economy mods
One is a WAI and the other is a tube from the WAI to the header to make the air hotter and make the air sensor make the ecu make the engine go leaner, lol.

Cool.. but I think you're a bit confused on terminology. The tube running from the header to the air intake IS a warm air intake. The big air filter you have (the cone racing filter) is actually referred to as a cold air intake.

Actually the big filter is a
Actually the big filter is a WAI-Warm air intake because it collects air from the engine bay.
A CAI- Cold air intake collects the air from the fender area where the fog lights are. Sorry, but this is an Injen WAI, you can even check it out online. My mileage is already improving. I installed this after 200 miles of my current tank. I'm at 275 miles and I still haven't hit the 1/4 mark. I'm prediction a 28-29mpg tank. My next tank should be in the 29-30's. My car idles at a lower rpm and seems to heat up faster. Sorry for the bad picture quality, it was taken with a cell phone. |
got some gas.
1st fill up
got some gas.
1st fill up was 314 miles on 12.191 gallons. 2nd fill up was 36.3 miles on .986 gallons 3rd fill up 50 miles on .341 gallons. |

No, it's not a misprint. I went inside the gas station and started complaining. They said the pump never lies. So I proceeded to show them my car and they went ROFL.

I did some further tests
I did some further tests tonight. The way the WAI comes for my car is a huge tube and a filter, which killed my low end. What i did with the mod is just replace the filter with this one and kept the original hoses going to the TB. And obviously added the pipe going from the header to the WAI(cone filter)
Before when I used to accelarate in 4th on the freeway it would always downshift, but now when I accelarate it accelarates in 4th. All that happens is you hear this shhhooooooooooooooo noise from the intake and it accelarates. Don't confuse the shhhhhhhhhoooooo noise with the WAI screaming. Now when you put the pedal to the metal it downshifts and the WAI screams. Also for the street I noticed I have more power in the low end and it accelarates a little faster. If you think this is a butt dyno then you're wrong. I've tested this on the track and it improved my times. I still keep running into the same damn problem, when I go WOT in 3rd gear it accelarates really slow at 4k. Even with stock it did it. I think it runs pig rich in that rpm and is killing power. |
3rd fillup
More likely that the gas in your tank expanded a little from heating in the 50 miles of driving. Not a very accurate measurement!

13.7 miles on .341 gallons of fuel. which 40.17mpg. But that fill up is still too small to be accurate. Let's just leave it that my car gets 31mpg on the freeway till I find a better flatter route. |
mileage testing
You guys ever think of connecting up a separate gas tank or several 1 gallon tanks that have different additives mixed into it and then switch between tanks while driving to see how the MPG changes. Would require a connection to the intake of a fuel pump NOT inside the gas tank to do it of course. When I ran gas tests on my Rambler back in the 70's I had a 1 gallon glass jug on the front seat through the fire wall to the fuel pump and watched the gas go down on a test run then came back and measured the gas used with a measuring cup.
Ahhh the good old days when gas was $0.259 a gallon and I still couldn't afford it! |
This is pretty easy to do,
This is pretty easy to do, the SVO people use two 3 way solenoids to set it up, flick of a switch.

I still can't figure out how
I still can't figure out how that thing is set up, do a full engine bay shot or something. Also, how is the tubo going to help anything if it's not hooked directly to the vacuum of the intake?
