My Fiesta is getting way better mileage

My 2015 1.6L Stick Shift Fiesta is consistently averaging 50-55 mpg. It doesn't seem to matter much City or highway. Is this partly due to the manual transmission or am I a very efficient driver?

Draigflag 03-08-2015 10:55 AM

Is yours the Sporty ST? Great car, great engine too. Fords eco boost technology is far more efficient than people realise. I've heard a case where someone averaged 75 MPG (UK) on a 300 mile trip which for a sports hatch is remarkable!

Jcp385 03-08-2015 11:42 AM

It has to be both. Stick will basically always outperform an automatic in terms of fuel economy, but it takes a driver who is skilled to do it against some of the slick modern automatics out there. Nice numbers! Congratulations!

theredcard 03-08-2015 09:15 PM

No it's the base model, no bells and whistles or eco boost. My last tank was 56 mpg, mostly highway

Draigflag 03-09-2015 12:00 AM

Seems pretty good, we only get the eco boost ST in that size, or the diesel. What kind of speeds do you cruise at? It does seem exceptionally high for a 1.6 gas engine.

theredcard 03-09-2015 11:56 AM

It's the standard, not eco boost. I'm not really a conservative driver, I'm usually around 80 mph on the freeway. Although I like to think I'm really good at predicting when other cars will have to slow and I'm quick to take it out of gear

Jcp385 03-09-2015 12:40 PM

Hmm at 80mph? That kind of mileage is impossible at that speed.

Are you hand calculating the numbers?

theredcard 03-09-2015 01:39 PM

I divide the mileage by gallons of gas used every full up

Draigflag 03-09-2015 01:56 PM

So where's your Fuelly page? It says no vehicle in garage...

You must be getting about 700 to 750 miles per tank yes?

theredcard 03-10-2015 03:47 AM

I haven't pushed it past 600 miles, I just created this account to ask that question

Draigflag 03-10-2015 04:44 AM

Well as you're here, you might as well start tracking your mileage with fuelly. It will give a far better more accurate result than any other calculations, and you can see your true costs and averages for fuel consumption. Its fun too :)

Are you pumping up your tires & using 100% ethanol-free gasoline(E0)? Do you have hills(even shallow ones) or know how to handle hills so your mpg doesn't fall much? Did someone bless you, so that the wind was always at your back?

Really glad to here the (stock ?) fiesa does so well cause a Fiesta is on my short list :thumb:

My guess is that the OP either has a l.0l SFE (2014) or may be inflating FE estimates. Only the 1.0l are in the upper 40s or higher - at least posted on Fuelly.

Draigflag 05-19-2015 11:51 AM

It says in their first post it's the 1.6 litre, not the 1.0 litre.

My BS radar is going wild... OP has no fillups... no data... there's no way that a Fiesta is getting 56 US MPG (67 UK MPG) over an entire tank driving at 80mph. Even driving at 55mph constantly with no traffic or braking you would be lucky to break 40 or 45 at the most. The base model Fiesta is rated at only 37 mpg on the highway, and if you're going 80mph there's zero chance you're going to even meet the highway figure, much less beat it by over 50%.

Either the OP is mistaken or is pulling a Draigflaig and using different units from the rest of us and forgetting to mention that. ;)
