A Welsh hydrogen car

This looks interesting, similar styling to the Elio. They are based in Wales not far from me, might check out thier workshop if I'm passing.

The design reminded me of the LoReMo. Though without the front windshield door.

Yea I see where you're coming from. A touch of VW XL1 and MK1 honda insight about it too. Just registered my interest with them, they maybe after someone local for trails/testing etc.

Interesting - too early for costing and mpg figures...?

Draigflag 02-17-2016 01:08 PM

Equivalent 250 MPG, about 300 miles per tank of 1.5 kg of hydrogen. Unfortunately the infrastructure isn't quite ready for hydrogen cars yet, and as a fuel, it's pretty expensive at the moment. Not sure how much this will cost, if it gets government backing (they already gave a 2M grant to the owners) then maybe there will be some grants available by the time it's released.

Well I had an email back, basically they are to start trialing soon with the 20 Road ready prototypes they already have built. They cost about £100,000 each to build so far, sounds alot, but to build a prototype car from scratch with such an advanced drivetrain/fuel source, that's pretty good. They havn't decided on the location of trials yet, however as there are still so few hydrogen filling stations here, it's likely to be in London where this kind of car makes more sense. I guess that's me out then for now.

As you don't buy the car, you pay for sale of service, they estimate it will be about £500 a month all in, that's the car, servicing, repairs, insurance etc.

benlovesgoddess 03-01-2016 12:18 AM

Hmmmm...While paying the car off in my first 3 years, that is £340 a month, fuel and insurance around £100. When the car is paid off in November, apart from a little put aside each month for servicing, MoT and repairs it should be a cheap ownership. Looks like Hydrogen cars will need to be a round for a while before they become an economic rather than a sci-fi technology decision...! We'll, for me anyway

The more I learn about this clever car, the more I like it. This video is very interesting.

The van looks especially funky.
But a car you can't buy? That's a hard sell...!

Draigflag 06-23-2016 01:50 PM

Well its the future apparently, especially when self driving cars take over, several families will be using the same vehicle at different times. These little Hydrogen cars apparently cost about £100,000 to produce, no-one will pay that. The business model makes sense when you read into it.
