Tesla's new Model 3

Tesla unveils new, lower-priced Model 3 | Fox News

If they stick to the price, that's pretty reasonable. It's about the same as the new Prius here.

It, like the Prius, will have some import tariffs added to it for the UK market.

Yep I just learned it will be about £35,000 when it gets here. Reasonable for an ev of this type, but still too expensive for most people to justify I should imagine.

What's scary is that pre-orders have already hit 276,000 for the model 3 just a couple of days after launch. Game changer.

gas2.org & others say maybe no Supercharger for model 3, hmmm

I hope that Tesla is successful with this new car. I think that a lot is riding on this Model 3 for the company to be successful. The compact luxury sedan market is one of the most competitive, and I’m hoping that the 276,000 deposits that Tesla received for the Model 3 is indication for it to do very well. It is priced at $35,000 to compete in this class.

The top four best selling small luxury sedans of 2015 were:

BMW 3-series (94,527 units)
Mercedes C-class (86,080 units)
Acura TLX (47,080 units)
Lexus IS (46,430 units)

Even if only half the people will buy the Model 3 that put down deposits, it will still outsell the above listed cars. The compact luxury sedan market is very important to car makers because as people become wealthier they can eventually buy a bigger nicer car from the same manufacturer. Tesla already has a Model S waiting for these people. Now I know that sedan sales are decreasing due to SUVs and cross overs, but Tesla has the Model X as well.

In addition, Teslas have no dealer mark-ups, you buy the cars directly from Tesla cutting out the annoying middle man. And the Model 3 will come with autonomous driving regardless of the trim level. I also like the Spartan interior a lot:

Now, I know what you are thinking looking at this picture: “where are all the HVAC vents?” In a rush to get to market, they won’t be ready for launch. Tesla will make them available as downloadable content for the appropriate season ;) I’m just kidding, they will probably add the vents or they are hidden.

Here is the Model 3 with a “Dodge Viper” sticker that I would prefer:

Or if you are an Aston Martin fan, here is a fake grille sticker for you:

I read they are up to 325,000 orders now, and crazy to think all those people have paid $1000 deposit too, Tesla have already secured hundreds of millions of dollars over a year before the car is launched. One thing I worry about is the environmental impact of the huge batteries, I watched a documentary last year of the devastation left behind from the tin mining for IPhones. Children just twelve years old being crushed to death in sand dunes and they work 18 hours a day, destroying beautiful tropical island territories just to earn a living. I hope Tesla source thier chemicals more ethicaly, and the battery production doesn't cause too much pollution.

I think Tesla did a great job !

This year? I had assumed there would be a long waiting list given the amount of pre orders.
