How much does everyone drive?

I was just wondering how much everyone drives on this site. I commute in from the burbs to just north of DC. Total round trip is about 60 miles, 5 days a week. I'm thinking I'm going to start going to work at 3am and leaving at 11am. At least I'd avoid all the traffic, maybe....

I average around 400 miles a week when I'm working.
The last few months I'll drive 150 miles monday morning, mid week make a trip or two to the closest town (around 15 miles each way on average, give/take 5 miles) and 150 miles back home thrusday or friday, if the weather is nice, like in the summer, my car will sit and I'll take my motorcycle (honda cb100 or cb350) for short trips around town if I don't need to haul anything, 80% of my driving is highway without any passengers, just carpentry/plastering tools, and supplys for living where I'm working for the week, averaging around 200+ pounds of "stuff".

when i go to school (monday to thursday) that will cost me 10 miles there and back

when I go to work maybe 15 miles there and back. And I work whenever I'm scheduled (part time)

So I can't unleash my potenial just because by the time my engine warms up fully (90 degrees C) I'm at my destination ;(

Too many stop lights, and incline climbing, oh the agressive drivers don't help either but hehe I'll find a way soon enough...

Lots of Miles

I drove just shy of 3200 miles in the past seven weeks, just me and no seat next to me :)

Ouch, that is alot of miles. If I keep that up I will put on over 23k a year. So much for having a low mileage car.

32 miles a day for me, 5 days a week. That is 16 miles to my campus, and 16 miles back, 85% highway at roughly 55 mph.

Add in recreational trips on the weekends, and my mileage total is about 7,000 miles per year.

The Suzuki Sidekick I'm using is a guzzler. Gets about 20 mpg if I drive in granny mode at 55 mph or so(After all, I save the fast driving for fast cars). I hate that damn thing, slow, ugly, dies all the time at stoplights, very vulnerable to crosswinds, guzzles gas, is very costly to keep running, and sounds like crap. My Ford Contour is currently not running, which got better fuel economy even with lead foot driving(and 0-60 in 7 seconds courtesy of V6 + performance chip + higher rev limit, and has seen 130). But with over 150k miles, it's about dead and probably only good for scrap at this point. The Triumph is being converted to EV, but was the fastest AND most fuel efficient car of the three(and will be again with time). That thing got over 30 mpg!

If your commute is under 50 miles a day and you rarely take trips over 60 miles, there is no reason you can't drive an EV other than the initial conversion cost and work involved in the build. That is indeed why I'm not yet driving one, but hopefully will be this summer. Done right, the savings can be tremendous.

I'll also have upgrading it to high performance electric V8 killer to look forward to over the period of a year after its initial incarnation as a slow, humble commuter. "But officer, I couldn't have been going 150. 'Tis just a forklift motor and batteries." I swear, if I ever end up dying prematurely, I'll make damn sure it is in that car. :)

Daily Monday through Friday

Daily Monday through Friday commute is 31 miles on one route (faster speeds, save time, bad FE)
The other route is 32.5 miles (all rural roads, slower speeds, better FE, a little extra time)

Weekends we normally drive the TL.

Relax, take your time Metro... The only way I can catch you on the gaslog is if you don't drive. Less than 1mpg currently between us, but your recent tanks kick mine! :)

career avg is 5k miles a month
may 2000 to present...
i didn't work last year from august to december
i should be up toward 400k total

i've consumed 8372 gallons of gas at an estimated 43mpg avg.
at an avg of $1.58/gal i've spent $13,228 on fuel
those are all very conservative estimates...
if i took the time to do the hard data i'd probaby be a bit ahead of these numbers...

glad to see you've surpassed the retired firefly #1, xfi. i was all over the map with that car. it was pre-scangauge.

the irony of getting really great FE lately, of course, is that it's going to take me even *longer* to get to my next fill-up! (not bragging, just pointing out a fact.)

Re: How much does everyone drive?

IT'S ALIVE AGAIN!!!

40 miles/day round trip--18 miles to work, 22 miles home, 5 days. likely less than 10 miles the other 2 days. that will soon change as i will be moving slightly closer to work. i'm hoping the round trip miles saved, plus being in city limits nearer to shopping, gym, etc will be significant.

Re: How much does everyone drive?

Not much, for the past few years I've been doing 8,000 to 10,000 miles/yr.

Re: How much does everyone drive?

I used to put 18,000 on my cars each year from 2000-2008. When I got married and got the 2nd car, I only put 16,000 on my Si in 2009, but the VX still got 18,000 that year. We were on pace for 18,000 in the VX and 16,000 in the Si again this year, until we sold the VX. We have driven the Fit 900 miles in its first week, with another road trip planned in 2 weeks. :)

My commute is 18 miles each way, and my wife's varies (3 different jobs, depending on the day and time of year). Her commute is generally 20-25 miles.

Re: How much does everyone drive?

I average about 10,000 miles/year, despite being retired. I do a couple of decent road trips every year - this year two trips to NM and one to UT. Last year cross-country to FL.

When I worked, I almost never drove alone in a car. I bicycled, rode motorcycles, took buses, trains, ferries, vanpools, and carpools.

Re: How much does everyone drive?

8,000 miles per year has been my average on my daily driver for about 3 years in a row. The other cars get a few miles, maybe 500 miles total.

This year I did buy a motorcycle and have put 2,300 miles on it but about 2,100 of that was joy riding.

About 100 mi/day on work days. About 25k/year.

Maybe 15k a year. Standard I guess.
