According to this story there will be no more VW diesels in the states.

No more Volkswagen TDI diesel cars will be offered in the United States

I don't get this decision, sure you'll always get those idiotic gullible people who bow down to the holy words of the mainstream media, but surely the minority wouldn't be enough to harm sales, and after investigation, it's been proven that VW have the cleanest engines on the market, with the lowest real world emissions. I'm confused.

Welcome to the new nation where the loons are given free reign and every accommodation is made to mollify them. It's time to tell them to shut up and go away or move into the mainstream and become a normal person. This decision should help the Cruze diesel and others, if we ever actually see that car here either.

I just don't get how heavy polluting 7.0 litre diesel trucks, and 2 seater Sports cars with 8.3 litre engines that barely scrape double digits economy wise can still be sold, and powerful, clean, super effecient technology gets pushed aside. I mean worse things have happened in the US, and do happen, things that cost lots of lives, things that actually matter. But I guess it's hard for the authorities to make severel billion dollars out of those things.

Lobbyists and lifetime office holders for one thing.

This bar graph shows why it is tough for car makers to bring diesels to the USA. Particularly NOx emissions (blue bar below) is what gets them. See how Europe has separatae NOx limits for diesel vs gasoline while the US EPA has only one standard, regardless of fuel. The blame should lie mostly on the legislators, as they clearly do not know the inherent nature of diesel engines for passenger cars. They will only be clean as gasoline engines with expensive efficiency-robbing emissions controls and after treatment.

I look forward to whatever regular car brands bring more diesels to fill in the void, such as GM with the Cruze and Equinox diesel, and Mazda with the just announced CX-5 diesel. It just won't be the same without VW TDIs. We didn't even get to experience TDI BlueMotions :(

Well at least there will still be diesel engines available through other marques like you say, for those that want them. It's a shame though as VW probably make some of the best TDI's on the market. As an example, Next Green car tested the new Touran with the 1.6 TDI, not the most exciting looking car I admit, but they saw economy as high as 58.1 UK MPG, I very much doubt there's a 7 seater available in the US that can trump that for efficiency.

After submitting false information to the world about their engines and paying a huge fine I guess the crooked management at least understood no body would buy the cars. Well maybe in 3rd world countries LOL

Weird comment. VW sales have been rising for the last 3 or 4 months in a row here, people really aren't that bothered by the dieselgate scandal, it didn't really affect anyone in any way at all, and the people I know with VW engines, including my parents, both my bosses and his parents and my best friend havn't even considered changing vehicles. I guess the US market was so tiny anyway, in the grand scheme they're not loosing that many sales compared to other global markets.
