Best Tire for good gas mileage

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 2003 Chevy Express 2500 Standard Cargo Van with the pulling package. I'm going to need new tires soon. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on the best tires to get for maximum fuel mileage, yet still be able to pull a fairly heavy load, like a 6 X 12 loaded cargo trailer, about 5,000 lbs..

Thank You

Go to TireRack.com and see if any LRR tires are available for your vehicle. You don't have to buy them there, but it is a great resource to see what is available.

The requirements for LRR labeling in the US is really poor to non-existent. So Tire Rack, CR, and other sites could miss some potential tires. The EU has much better ones, but the tire models there might not be available or the same here.

That said, BF Goodrich Long Trails are a LRR truck tire, or were a few years ago.

Michelin and Continental both have Eco oriented tyres here, worth looking on thier European or UK websites to do some homework, then seeing if the same tyre is available there. I had some continental eco-contacts on my old car, very hard compound, and low rolling resistance, but a bit noisy.

My hybrid had Bridgestone Ecopias too, but I doubt they're available in such a large dimension.

Ok, I'm home from work, and had time to look it up. There's only 3 LRR tires for that vehicle currently available in the US. One is a winter tire, of the other two, the Michelin Defender is the one I would choose for my own vehicle.

I take it for granted that:
You want an all season truck tire. ???
Lowest roll resistance in highest rated on CR are:
Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus
Cooper Discoverer SRX
Those two are only rated very good. None are rated excellent.
There is a winter/snow truck tire rated excellent for low rolling resistance.
Michelin Latitude X-Ice XI 2(1)

I don't think those others are available in the size (225/75R16) and load range E that a 3/4 ton requires. When I search on TireRack, I only come up with these:

MICHELIN
DEFENDER LTX M/S
Highway All-Season

MICHELIN
LTX WINTER
Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow

MICHELIN
LTX M/S2
Highway All-Season

Tire Rack is a major seller, and good site for research, but may not carry all available options.
