Duel Fuel heating system
 

If you have gas heat for the winter then you probably have an electric central air conditioner for the summer. When the air conditioner needs to be replaced get a heat pump and a duel feul theremostat with an outdoor temperature sensor. Use the heat pump to heat the house when the outside temperature is above 30 degrees. When the outside temperature drops below 30 the thermostat will switch to gas heat.
