New RAV4
I traded my 2016 CR-V for a 2017 RAV4. The RAV has numerous safety features plus XM radio that I didn't have. I'm hunting for where and how to change my signature so hopefully by the time I fill up it will be reflected and not the Honda.

Wow you only just bought the Honda? I hear a CRV Hybrid is coming soon. Did you go for the RAV hybrid or just regular gas/diesel? (assuming the diesel isn't available)
|
I got the regular gasoline. It has many features the Honda didn't, BSM/cross traffic, LKA, FCW, XM, power remote liftgate, navigation and probably a few more I'm not thinking of. It seems to have a quieter ride also.

It's surprising how many large expensive cars still don't have sat nav integrated. An integrated system is a must for me, as it stops the music/radio to tell you the directions which you might otherwise miss. Also, I get a mini display in between the instrument clusters so I don't have to look across towards the centre console.

Car companies tend to overcharge for the navigation system, and many still require a visit to the dealer for map updates.

Lived here so long I like getting lost, need to go about 100 miles just to try. Heck I know almost every pothole for 25 in each direction, except after a cold nasty winter, when there is a new crop.
Just get a new $1k IPhone, mine cost $12.84. |

Options on cars are generally marked up 100%. My wife has a hand me down Iphone 6 that does fine when we are outside our local area (daughters family plan $25 @ month). MY Echo in good shape would bring just about the same money as a 2001 Mercedes that cost 5 times as much new. Better to have a hand held device that you can carry with you when you leave your car parked and walk or ride a bike 12 miles a day like I do at sunrise every day, in my neighborhood with some nice hills.

TomTom are currently selling their standalone sat nav units with lifetime updates. But if you read the small print it is only for the life of the unit AS SUPPORTED BY TOMTOM. Once they decide the system has been superseded they will no longer support it. That's what happened with my TomTom One. A bit like Microsoft and Windows Vista!
The unit works great, ideal for my needs, but the maps are no longer updated. |
