I'd go for the Type R then the Ford. The French pair would be my last choices.

Good little article for those looking for a hot hatch but don't want to spend hours trawling through reviews all over the Web. This just kind of summarises them briefly. Nice to see my car still making the top ten too, I couldn't agree more. The Honda whilst amazing to drive just looks too silly, the German stuff is a bit bland and characterless for me, not to mention the reliability woes you'd have. The i30N is a great choice, but I hate how much it weighs. The Megane RS is a good contender, though Renault are less reliable than Peugeot, so for that and all the reasons above, I'll be sticking my awesome little gti.

P.s. I had a fun 50 mile trip to the shops tonight and despite the high speed and several overtakes, I still averaged over 40 MPG, doubt the others would do that with an enthusiastic right foot!

How come your best tankful is 40.9 mpg? What depresses your numbers?

Lots of very short trips during the week to work, and I visit my mum every day, she doesn't live far, but she lives at the top of a steep hill. Also, there are no motorways here, just rural A and B roads, in a mountainous region.

I drove to Cardiff this weekend and on the 124 mile trip down, I got an indicated 50.3 MPG, I wasn't hanging about either. But on a 400+ mile range tank, a 250 mile economical trip still leaves me 150+ miles of short urban trips which can last weeks, bringing my average way down.

With my wee Jazz I actually find I get my best mileage on short trips around town and country roads. It is when I have to use the motorway that I struggle to get my mpg up. Obviously two cars designed for different purposes.

Plus 38 bhp isn't it? Similar gains to what I could get with mine after a quick tune up, around 310, although I'd like 308 exactly, as my car model is a 308 haha.
