Reliability of older vehicles.
 

Found this interesting article regarding the statistics regarding failure rates for vehicles being tested in the UK (MOT carried out every year on vehicles over 3 years old up to 40 years old).

Honda Jazz often tops the tables for reliability, but then when did you see anyone under 65 driving one? Low annual miles driven gently by pensioners, a few common observations that could affect a cars reliability score.

On the same note, here are the manufacturer reliability ratings for 2018.

Just as an FYI, I owned a 1997 BMW 328 convertible for 18 years and close to 300,000 km. It was exceptionally reliable. I'm currently 3+ years into my first Audi at over 65,000 km. Not a single squawk, aside from the post Dieselgate fix (worse fuel economy, high revving, clunky shifts)

I realize that one's person's experience might not be indicative of the aggregate of the group. I would definitely look at getting another BMW. I would not consider getting a Mercedes.

You get good and bad examples for every manufacturer, its a bit of a lottery buying a car new or old. A few of my friends drive Audi's, in one A3 the engine blew, in the next one the entire dash needed replacing, in my mum's friends, it filled with water in the rain and needed a new radiator after 2 years. I've also helped push 2 A3's off the road that have broken down recently. This kind of backs up the poor reputation of Audi for me, but then you can get a decent one and be happy for years, just the way it goes.

Big yup. Nick Murray, a YouTube personality, is a Porsche 911 fan. His page has videos of a brand new 911 he got, which had a litany of defects including interior puddles when it rained, smoke coming from electrical components, and more. Fortunately, Porsche bought the car back from him. He's now a happy owner of a C4S.

Yes, but the report only quoted cars where more than 5,000 were tested. That should even out the odd rogue example.
