BMW vs AMG
They start off tied at 3 letters each. Where do they go from there?

I don't know about the AMG variety, but Mercedes currently have a poor reliability record here in the UK.

Same over here as far as I know. I don't think BMW is super high on the list either.

My brother has had two BMWs recently and both have had expensive faults that the dealer has had to sort out. Lovely cars though. Beautiful to drive.

AMG = All Money Gone
BMW = Brought Me Worries or Bavarian Motor Wreck These are great performing sedans, but I wouldn't want to own one out of warranty. Heck, I wouldn't want to own one brand new either; these things depreciate $15k/year. The amount of electronic gizmos that these have, along with all wheel drive and the turbo chargers, there is too much wallet draining f^&%ery associated with these cars. My AMG is 14 years old, but it's a simple naturally aspirated engine with not much electronics. Mercedes started putting AMG badging on most of their newer cars and increased the price by 20%. Most AMGs are made in Alabama and not Germany, so they are not special anymore and are put together by people who are not as good building cars. I know I sound like an old bitter person, but I'm not the only one that thinks this way about the new German cars. BMW owners used to lease their cars because of high maintenance, but due to the high depreciation the lease payments are way too high as well. |
