Cost of CNG upgrade to the CNG Cavaliers

Hello,

My 2000 Chevy Cavalier BiFuel CNG was totaled in a rear end collision. The offenders insurance adjuster wants to give me only the value for the purely gasoline version. Said I would need documentation to prove added value. I have called Chevy Customer service and they show the car only with a gas engine, claiming I am talking about an aftermarket addition. I do recall some one here saying these where converted by a company in Florida. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can show/prove to them how much extra this car would have cost because it was CNG.

All insurers ask for any aftermarket additions or modifications when you first insure a vehicle, and/or you are required to inform them as soon as they are added. So if the equipment you are refering to is non standard equipment, then they should have been told from the start as this can affect how much your premium is. In circumstances like this, they legally don't have to pay you for equipment you didn't declare.

In the UK they could refuse to pay out altogether if a car has been modified and they have not been informed.
