Which will you choose?

If I was buying a brand new car now, I'd go EV. I don't know why some countries are still investing in ICE powered cars. Some places in Europe are banning ICE in just 4 years time, although the UK is holding on for another 9 years. Thank god they're not banning old ICE cars.

I am giving serious consideration to buying the new MG5 EV Estate.

That is a really nice looking car. My dad and I used to go once or twice a year to look at MG and Opel back in the "good old days" when they came to the states. I miss that, mainly for the outings with my dad. If MG came back with that car it would be very tempting.
|
As MG is now a Chinese company who knows, you may get the chance after the change of leader!
|
To be honest, that MG5 has classic Chinese awkwardly odd design that looks like an old Passat made love to an old Astra, and we all know it's not going to be exciting to drive or have the best infortainment system/safety features. However, as a mode of transport for the masses for people who don't care about driving or how they look doing it, then can't argue with its value for money. And to be fair, the 7.3 sprint to 60 time is alot quicker than some of the EVs I've been looking at. If you want one, you can actually get one with a £8000 discount for less than £20,000, that's cheap for a brand new car, never mind one with an electric power train.
|
Personally, I think it looks gorgeous. And a quantum leap from my 2006 Jazz.
|
It's a good looking car but I'll avoid buying Chinese for as long as possible.

Yeah, it's either buy or do without in many cases. I still want to see jobs and products brought back to this country though.

Just like Mini, Landrover, Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce etc, etc. |
An informative thread - this.
Up until now I got the EV part - but to me it evokes memories of my late, lamented (buyback) VW JSW TDI. I actually thought it was a VW until the MG front badge sunk in. Sorry - I now think of it (this thread has been SO informative for me) as ".......from the folks who brought you CoVid19)........" ciao, ez |

What is JSW? Probably a "well duh" but at the moment I can't think of it.
|
Jetta Station Wagon. So what's the story with those and other VW TDI units? I'm assuming they "fixed" the software and sold them at a big discount?
|
Yep. Well duh. Thanks.

Over here in the UK, we used to refer to them as "estate" vehicles, the term station wagon is becoming more popular. Peugeot have always referred to their estate cars as station wagons. I guess it sounds trendier, estate is quite a dated sounding phrase now.
Talking of which, the Engineered by Peugeot Sport SW has to be the best looking SW on the market now in my opinion. |
From Wiki.
Reflecting the original purpose of transporting people and luggage between country estates and railway stations, the body style is called an "estate car" or "estate" in the United Kingdom, or a "station wagon" in North America, New Zealand, Australian and Africa. |
Whatever way one chooses to refer to it the Peugeot is one sharp car. I would be quite happy to have one.
|
Me too, I will monitor prices carefully, it's only being released this year. The ev range would suit my daily needs, but the 355 combined BHP would keep me entertained on weekends for sure.
|
During my Navy time - after college - another officer had a series of Peugeot diesel and gas vehicles.
Based on the above - albeit the track record of later production cars - I would not buy one. Now VW - in 2019 only - produced a fuel efficient wagon available with my method of gear change. I'd have one today - except I'd just stolen a brand new 1.4 liter/5M Jetta (14337 OTD (tax, license, dork fee) in tax intensive Los Californios....................................... ....) ez |

I would definitely go spend time looking at one in a showroom if they brought it here.
