Top 10 most efficient Diesels 2

It's been a wile since posting to this thread so decided to give it's cage a rattling, but the site would not let me post due to it being to old
so started a new thread but if a mod would like to merge the two that would
be good.

The Clio as now gone to a new home a mates daughter is now running happily about in it,
it had 138000 miles on the clock when sold and was still going just over 70 UK MPG when
sold.
I only sold it due to being offered a 2006 21000 mile Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet Diesel,
it's in very good condition but has been suffering from lack of use, a diesel leak and
some starting and rough running at low speed also clock and trip resetting, mostly cured
by cleaning switch connections and is now after about 1200 miles running well,
the MPG is slowly getting better averaging around 66 UK mpg but a run last week showed
near 75 on it's pretty accurate trip, it needed 2 rear tyres for the mot, cracked due to
age being org front had been changed due to wear not unusual for a Panda, I did the tracking
and it was a mile out not noticed any wear since but time will tell.
Quite different to drive from the Clio so am still learning how to get the best from it,
and I suspect mpg will rise as I get used to it.
The engine looks more like a hot petrol unite than a Diesel double over head cam 16 valve
1250cc turbo intercooled this is a 70 bhp one but they go up to over 100 bhp so that's happen why.

One top-up a month. I am filling my tank 5 times a month at the moment.

Retired now and with Covid the miles have dropped even more,
chuck in a car that does 70 mpg and you don't see the forecourt
that often.
Though your Jazz seems to be doing ok, with the higher price of
Diesel round here it's debatable which is cheaper to run.

The Panda diesel was my first brand new car. In 2007 you could get a brand new one for £6495 which seemed like a bargain. It was super efficient and regularly did 65-75 MPG with little effort. I only kept it 12 months as I found the performance inadequate and quite frustrating when you wanted to drive quickly or overtake, but I class myself as a spirited driver. After that I bought an Abarth 500, similar in some ways, but with 170 bhp it was a fair bit quicker. Every car since has been quicker and quicker, would be hard to go backwards now.

I'm not in a great rush these days but the Panda is down on power compared to the Clio,
the Panda goes ok if you let it rev a bit more but it is noticeably smoother not that
the Clio was bad if it beaves it's self it may see my driving days out.

Well the Panda is still going well had a bit of a problem were it would not
start and would reset the trips fitted a new ign switch and it as been ok
since, the MPG is slowly rising as I get used to how it like to be driven.
Now just over 23000 miles and the last 2 fills are about 75 UK MPG.

I have just picked up a 2008 1.9tdi Skoda Octavia estate. These engines are renowned for their economy and longevity.

I will be tracking the fuel consumption on here, I have had an indicted 78mpg for a recent 15 mile trip, but will reserve judgement until I have tracked a couple of tanks full. Might be a while though as gauge is showing over 800 miles till empty.

P.S. It has 266k miles on it, but runs very sweetly and is wearing it's miles very well. I won't be the only driver, so it won't be hypermiled everywhere, but let's see how we get on.

Skoda make very good vehicles one thing to keep a eye on though
are the cooling hoses what ever you do don't let it overheat.

Congrats on your new acquisition. When you get a chance post a pic or three.

Great solid cars, did you see the Car Throttle guy's example on YouTube? Over 400,000 miles and runs like a dream. The only downside to a large range like yours is that it usually means you are more likely to do more short trips. My Clio would do close to 800 miles on a tank if I tried.
