We're starting to see EVs with 1000+ bhp, and you want to give them less grip? No thanks...
Pneumatic tyres didn't have a lot of grip when they started out. It won't take them long to get the technology sorted then I imagine they will be as grippy and quiet as normal tyres.
I'll stick with regular tires. They work.
They must see an advantage somewhere. Doubt it is just engineering for engineering's sake. I cannot see not being able to puncture that important. You get tyres that do that now.
Some people go an entire life without a puncture, I've never had one. Old tyres are hard to recycle as is, adding plastic waste to that equation could be an environmental disaster.
There is already plastic in current tires. These might be better in that the plastic isn't embedded in the rubber.
As to why these might be needed, well, why do we have TPMS? It's because many people don't pay attention to their tires. While TPMS has helped there, some systems still have a wide enough range before turning on the alert that the tires can be running underinflated for some time. |
