New here, seems I've found my posse

I'll keep it short. I'm in my early twenties, in College, and have an obsessive compulsion to make everything efficient or at least better than was original.

I currently drive an '85 CRX Si that gets 40-45 mpg, at 218k miles it could use a rebuild but it's hard to tear it apart if I have to drive it everyday. My other car/project is an '89 CRX HF, currently in 1,000 pieces being rebuilt for a hi-mpg, reliable, street car. I haven't decided on whether to stick to a rebuilt 62-hp, 8-valve, D15B6 or upgrade to the 92-hp VTEC-E D15Z1 of the 92-95 VX yet, the main factor being ease of installation and relative cost. Advice/pointers are always welcome. I have limited tools and somewhat limited knowledge (mostly lack of electrical knowledge) that keep me from trying some projects (MPG computer, belly pan, VTEC-E swap, etc) but I'm always willing to learn. I am the (black) sheep that has found his herd. Mak

Hey Mak, welcome. I think you've come to the right place, yes.

D15Z1 FTW!!!

Yeah, definately, it's a complete bolt in except for wiring, but that's easy. You'll here things like "run a wire" that sound really intimidating at first, but once you're used to it it makes perfect sense. The biggest pain is the obd0 to obd1, but you can buy your way out of it (though I have more pride having the knowledge and ability to have done it myself).

Hey MakDiesel, glad to have you here, I remember you saying something on https://www.redpepperracing.com about wanting to do a D15Z1 swap in your CRX, it seems like a number of other people are doing simaler things, maybe a FAQ page on it should be set up?

There's a link to a guy on here that is doing the Z1 into a 4th gen hatch - he may have some info to share should you decide to go that route. I have a Z1 that I'm in the process of rebuilding so I might be able to help with questions on it - I certainly will try.

Best of luck to you - can't wait to hear more.

You're lame.

Yes... yes I am... I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now...
