Skoda Fabia II

Today I got my new (to me) car on the road for the first time. It is a 2009 Skoda Fabia II 1.4 16V. As soon as I got it taxed this morning I was off for my first top-up of fuel. Because I only do about 3,000 miles a year now (if that), and because the BP station is the nearest to me, I filled up with BP Ultimate 97 RON E5. Expensive, but I hope worth it.
Not only is the petrol more expensive but my Road Tax went up from the Jazz's £130 a year to £220 a year. My insurance is a little dearer as well but not by much.
The car is a level above the Jazz with Climatronic heating and ventilation, heated seats and mirrors, cruise control and a few other toys to play with.
If it turns out to be as reliable as the Jazz I will count myself very lucky. It has not quite done 70,000 miles so with a bit of luck it will see me out.

Congrats on the new car. That tax is pretty hefty for such a low powered car. Did you not fancy the diesel? You could buy a decades worth of tax for the same price, and 80+ MPG. Maybe there wasn't one around. Should be pretty reliable being a VW group car.

I actually went to buy a 12-plate diesel for less money but when I got there the guy I had spoken to on the phone apologised and said his partner had taken a deposit on the diesel earlier in the day. He asked if it was a diesel I was after and when I said no he told me he had just got the petrol, low mileage, higher spec car in and did I want to look at it. The rest is history.
I had researched the diesel between seeing it online and going to view it, but I hadn't done the same for the petrol model. Increase in tax was a shock.
VW group cars are nothing like as reliable as they once were but hopefully, this one will not be too bad.

Congrats on the new car. I wish mine had heated seats. Mine has do it yourself climate control which I prefer but I do miss the heated seats and steering wheel I used to have. Where's the pictures(s)? It can't be real on the internet without pictures, can it? :)

That's a nice looking car. I like those wheels. As long as you can avoid the idiots on the road you should get many many years of good driving from it.
