I think a couple weren't technically sold ;)

I once spotted a Dakota Sport. Thought it was a custom job.

Austin Metropolitan was quite common over here. In fact, there are still 53 registered on the road and another 31 SORN'd, probably in various stages of restoration.

I remember seeing Metropolitans now and then. What is SORN'd?

"Tell DVLA you’re taking your vehicle off the road, for example if you’re keeping it in a garage. This is sometimes called a ‘Statutory Off Road Notification’ (SORN)."

Taken from government website. You stop paying road tax. I sometimes do it during winter months with whatever second car I own.

Yes. Even if you are keeping the car on private land, it must be taxed or SORN'd. If you do not tax or SORN it, the DVLA will automatically notify the registered keeper of an £80 fine.
You can do a SORN online; it is so easy it would be foolish not to.

That's interesting. I don't think we have that here. I confess to not really paying attention to anything except paying my annual registration and inspection fees, about $120 for the year.

That costs me $350 here, for my car, in the UK.
