That list is total tripe. Police in the UK have had to remove BMWs from pursuit roles because the engines fail and catch fire. Ford cars in the UK with the 1.2 engine have terrible engine issues. VAG group cars with the CAVE engine are having one and two engines replaced under warranty. And Ferrari engines require more maintenance than an M1 Abrams.
If it is not Japanese then it is not top-class.

The list is based upon individual examples that Ward's liked.

Just before that Toyota V6, the 4 cylinder that was in the likes of the Camry here had insufficient cooling passages. That resulted in the oil sludging up.

The Ford Vulcan was a tank. Ended up in production for over 20 years. Was in my 1996 Taurus and 2000 Ranger. Only issue was that Ford use PCVs with a limited life. Also had to replace that on the Duratec in the Sable.

"Jetta did best in 2009 and 2010 with its 1.4-liter TSI “Twincharger,” also used in Golf and Scirocco."
That is the CAVE engine and a heap of crap.

The OT article was pulling from Ward's 10 Best, which doesn't look at reliability.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%27s_10_Best_Engines
It is also American market only.
