When I was a lad, just having a car was a magnet. Here in the UK, it was mainly buses or a bike, back in the 60s.

You guys had it easy back then. Just getting a girl to look up from her phone is near impossible these days, it's like being invisible. 12 years since anyone gave me a chance, and in a small poor rural town like this, I'm actually considered a decent catch. Go figure as you guys in the states say.

The 60's were a better time in many ways. And now, yes, major issue getting people's nose out of their phone/device for more than a moment. Especially a problem when they are driving.

It is a serious offence to use a handheld device while driving in the UK with stiff penalties.
If you’re caught using a mobile phone while driving, you should expect to face a fine as part of your punishment. The current penalties for using a mobile phone while driving are:
A fixed-penalty notice – a £200 fine and six penalty points for using a handheld phone when driving (12 points and you are banned except in extenuating circumstances).
New drivers who have passed their driving test in the past two years will automatically lose their licence
If taken to court, you could face disqualification and a maximum fine of up to £1,000 (£2,500 if you’re driving a lorry or a bus).
From 28 June 2022, the UK government increased the penalty for causing death as a result of using a handheld device while driving from 14 years to life imprisonment, as it falls into the dangerous driving or careless driving category.

That's all good. They should add 10,000 hours community service into the mix, or maybe 20,000 hours.
