New Car to add to the Gassavers family....

Just last night my brother and I went and took a look at a 1992 Honda Civic VX. It was in much better shape than I expected and also cheaper. The only major downer is that it has a "salvage certificate" so I have to go through a bunch a crap to get it registered. Well the other downer is that it is the ugliest aqua green color I have ever seen.

187,000 miles

I go pick her up on Sunday.

(oh ya open to offers for my CRX. Looking to get $1500 with rims $1300 without rims)

Here are the only pictures that I have:

very cool!

Congrats! That blue/green isn't TOO bad...

As for the salvage certificate, I know in my state all I had to do was have it pass safety and emissions and they registered it without a problem.

Any rust?

MetroMPG 08-17-2006 08:36 AM

I'll be honest. I've been watching the ads for VX's too. Not that I'd buy one. Probably...

SVOboy 08-17-2006 08:39 AM

Darin, you'd buy one and not tell anyone for months, trying to hide it like you were pregnant.

Anyway, :p, look awesome. I h8 the teal as well, I really do!

MetroMPG 08-17-2006 08:57 AM

Is it rude to ask how much it cost?

Ben, you'd know if I had one hidden, because i'd be talking about pickles and ice cream all the time.

SVOboy 08-17-2006 09:00 AM

Indeed, I'm slightly curious as well.

Darin, I have no idea what you're talking about.

GasSavers_Jack 08-17-2006 09:08 AM

Ok answers....... Rust yes 2 small spots over the rear wheels but for a car from the PA rust belt it is one of the best I have seen. It also has a front bumper that is cracked and "stapled" back together. When I pick it up I will post pictures because it is actually kind of funny. Other than that it looks to be in very good shape.

Price. No it is never rude to ask if you ask me. $825.00

As far as the salvage certificate I dont think that it is all that hard to do just kind of time consuming.

SVOboy 08-17-2006 09:08 AM

Oh my gosh I'm jealous.

Okay, can anyone tell me why I've wasted all of this time and money modifying my car when I could buy one for under $1000?

Because I got BIGTIME lucky when I found that one. My brother and I laughed when we got back in the truck to leave. Saying that was all but stealing.

rust

Matt, the car that you bought most likely will not have as much rust, or the potential to have it later... Plus, do you really want a car with a salvage title.

As far as the Salvage title to me I really dont care. As long as the car was repaired properly in most cases the car will be fine. For people that do care I can see why they dont want a R-title but hey to each his own.

My n600 has a salvage title... it really doesn't bother me at all. The only time that a salvage title matters is if you are planning on selling it in the next few years. For my n600 I plan on having it for a LONG time, and even if it's a salvage a collector would pay top dollar for it (assuming it's restored). To me a $800 Civic VX could be pink and missing all of the doors/fenders and I'll still buy it.

omgwtfbyobbq 08-17-2006 10:29 AM

I'd buy it because it was pink. Make a big stencil and spray a black Venture Bros skull on the hood, I'd roll in that. :D

SVOboy 08-17-2006 10:32 AM

You could tell people it was the full-race pinks car, :p

470 WHP d16 FTW!!!

omgwtfbyobbq 08-17-2006 10:37 AM

I just won't race because the turbo isn't spooling right. Or at all! :D

To put it into even more perspective, My project '89 CRX HF was $800 and it has possible salvage title, busted pass fender, dented hood, beat front bumper, busted pass headlight, destroyed pass corner, no interior other than a dash and a seat, foam packing peanuts everywhere, very little rust, a useless driver's window reg, broken odometer since who knows when, I had to fight 1st and 2nd gear like an irate space donkey to get her home, no brake lights, idles like a comatose patient (which led to fastest length-of-ownership-to-time-of-wreck ratio ever, link to story below) and oh yeah, the parking brake is utterly useless (a nearby stick has been temping that job until I get to fixing it) Anyway, as you can see, you got the better deal, hands down.
