Greetings

I've come here to learn about current 'best practices' while I'm adjusting to a new car (Honda Fit LX MT) anyway. I'm generally interested in efficiency (getting more from less) rather than austerity (getting less from less), though since I like gadgets I think I'll get a Scangauge and experiment when conditions permit.

My old car, replaced due to iron-oxide-induced involuntary weight reduction, was a '93 Dodge/Mitsubishi Colt; it actually had pretty much the same EPA ratings (though somewhat smaller and lighter). I almost never bothered to determine its actual mileage, since it didn't even have a trip counter.

I typically will post only if I happen to read a question I know how to answer, or a question I can't find a good answer to by searching.

Welcome aboard KPS... and great choice of car :) My fit will be here in 2-3 weeks.

I have heard of people getting 45MPG in their Fit. I'm certain that I can break 50, but it's going to take some work. I believe the Fit already has an undertray and it comes with LRR tires. Maybe a set of rear wheel well skirts is in order? A grille block can't hurt either.

I am also having my dealer install the block heater as one of the "mandatory options" in order for them to make profit on the car. I'm certain that will come in handy this winter.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. The people here are typically VERY helpful and friendly.

If you want to check out some terminology and some valuable threads, click on the "glossary" link at the top of the screen.

Its a good bet FE on a fit will be in the same ball park at a 8th gen Civic r-18. I for one will be real intrested to see what kinda numbers concerned fit drivers start turning in with the little SUV, Station Wagon, 4 door cross over???

Welcome to GS! It's good to see some Fit owners starting to join -- it's a great car!

If you want a no-nonsense idea of what works for fuel economy, try the FAQ on busted and confirmed mods. After a while, driving technique can play a big role as well. As Matt said, feel free to ask out loud or PM us anytime. Enjoy!

There's a cover under the engine only. The rest is not entirely flat but it would probably be easier than most cars to cover it all with a single flat sheet, since the rear suspension is pushed off to the edges.

I forgot to get it with a block heater (I ordered in June) but plan to add one before long.

The biggest problem I'm having in adapting to the Fit is that it's so 'refined' that I can't hear or feel the engine. The Colt didn't even have a tach but it was always obvious what it was doing. I guess I'll have to wait for my Scangauge to learn when to shift the Fit.

My scangauge came in the mail yesterday. Now it's just a waiting game for the car to come in.

The battle can begin once I get my fit... then there will be at least two people participating.
