Adding reminders to notes

I'm digging Fuelly. The only thing I would love to see beyond what's here is a "Remind me in x miles" feature to the note system.

Oil changes would be the obvious example: I change my oil, add a note to Fuelly in the usual way, but there'd be an optional field at the bottom to choose a mileage interval, and one to specify a brief note. The first time I fuel up after the interval has been reached, it triggers an message containing the note (e.g. "Hey! Change your oil!") to my registered email address.

Could be very useful, especially since we're entering the pertinent mileage data anyway. Oil changes, air filters, tranny/diff fluid, plugs, tyre rotation, etc etc..

Programmatically it would seem in my simple brain to be a few extra columns on the user's profile and a routine at submit time to check it.

That is my suggestion. Cos proper maintenance is vital to good fuel consumption!

btw the preview took out my line breaks, so I put paragraph tags in, but it seems to have converted each paragraph tag to three br tags... so that's why the crazy spacing.

That's one of our most frequent requests and it's something we're considering. We're not positive we want to go down the path of tracking anything other than fuel-ups, but we're thinking about it. Thanks for the suggestion.

And I cleaned up your formatting.

Cool, thanks. Sorry, I guess I didn't look back far enough to see that it had been requested before.

Perhaps look at it this way. Presumably your aim with the site is specifically to encourage people to drive for better MPG. Certainly something like Fuelly encourages you to go for a "high score" if you're the kind of person that is driven by such things.

A simple maintenance feature would make it appealing to enthusiast types who, to be honest, could often use some encouragement to drive for a bit more economy.

If not, would it be possible to at least make the notes accessible via RSS? I could probably roll my own reminder system with that.

Yeah, we should make a notes RSS feed. Added to my to-do list!
